While each area in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined has its own specific challenge, the problem facing the people of L’Arca is particularly unusual. The Hackrobat, seeking revenge for an old imprisonment, has cursed the residents to transform into animals, and all animals in L’Arca to become humans.
Among the townspeople is a small boy who acts a bit like a wolf. When freed, he will lead you to Grotta del Sigillo, where you’ll find the Hackrobat at the end of the dungeon. Ruff, the wolf boy, will eventually join your party, but he won’t participate in this fight. It will be up to you, Kiefer, and Maribel to face the Hackrobat on your own.
How To Defeat The Hackrobat
You’ll know you’re close to the boss when you enter a room containing an angel statue and an injured wolf, just before the boss room. Save your progress with the statue and restore your HP and MP before moving forward. Interacting with the stone slab in the next room will start a conversation that immediately triggers the battle.
As is common with boss fights, you will attack first. The Hackrobat belongs to the Demon family of enemies, so it’s best to prioritize your party members’ roles as follows:
| Party Member | Role |
|---|---|
| Player/Hero | Focus on healing and buffing the team’s defenses. Use items to restore MP for Maribel and Kiefer if needed. If everyone is in good shape, go ahead and attack normally. |
| Maribel | Use Crack and Frizz spells—they’re effective here. Avoid Dazzle since Hackrobat resists it, and Sizz isn’t worth it because this fight is against a single enemy and MP would be wasted. |
| Kiefer | Flame Slash and Lightning Slash are good options, but since Kiefer has lower MP, make sure to use basic attacks as well. |
Generally, the party can stay alive with just the hero’s healing skills. However, keep Phials and Yggdrasil Leaves ready to restore MP or revive fallen allies. If you fail the fight, you’ll need to pay 1,000 G or reload an earlier save.
At this stage in the game, none of your party members can revive others with special skills or abilities. Items are your only option for reviving, and since such useful items are hard to find, it’s best to prevent party members from falling in battle.
Hackrobat’s Attacks
The Hackrobat is a magical foe that uses a variety of attacks and skills. Most of its moves target a single character, but it can attack twice in a row and may hit multiple party members.
It’s important to note that when Hackrobat executes two consecutive attacks, it might hit the same character twice. Do not let your HP fall low enough to withstand two hits, as this could leave your party vulnerable without a means to recover.
Hackrobat does not have charge-up moves, so you can’t predict its attacks in advance. Still, as long as you monitor your HP, its moves aren’t overly deadly.
| Attack Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Wind Sickles | A single-target attack doing about 20 damage if your level and gear are average. |
| Large Eyeball Throw | A single-target attack that doesn’t do much damage even if defenses aren’t raised. When defenses are up, it’s even weaker. |
| Zam | A dark energy orb attack that hits one target. If you’re not healing regularly, this can quickly take out a party member in one shot. |
| Dazzleflash | A bright flash attempt to dazzle the entire team, reducing their accuracy. |
This enemy won’t charge any of its moves, so you can’t prepare for specific attacks. However, most moves aren’t highly dangerous if you keep your HP topped off. Be prepared with healing items and antidotes, as you might need to recover quickly from unexpected hits.
