The opening of Solasta 2 immediately throws you into a challenging situation. A sudden teleportation transports your party away from everything familiar, leaving you stranded in an unfamiliar land with one urgent goal: to find your brother, Rickard.
The first real story mission, Two Inches From Death, isn’t the toughest in terms of gameplay, but it establishes the mood of the game. It introduces you to the land’s politics, its dangers, and the powerful factions you’ll need to navigate carefully to stay alive.
Look Around For Help
Once you control your party, explore the nearby area. You’ll come across a group composed of Wood Sprites and Garden Nymphs.
You’ll be prompted to try ambushing the enemies. While attacking from a distance isn’t mandatory, it’s often helpful. The most effective way is to have a ranged character target the closest Wood Sprite first. The others will be far away, making them easier to defeat after that initial attack.
This battle is simple but understanding enemy behavior is key: Wood Sprites fight at close range, while Garden Nymphs tend to stay back and attack from afar. It might seem logical to send melee fighters after the Sprites since they’re closing in, but it’s better to focus on taking out the Nymphs early. Sending your melee units directly after the Nymphs will shut down their ranged attacks, making the fight much cleaner. Let your ranged characters or spellcasters handle the Sprites.
After winning the fight, follow the path forward—check your map for accessible routes—until you encounter a group of strangers. An automatic conversation will start.
The dialogue offers different choices, but don’t stress over which to pick—regardless of what you say, your party will end up being arrested. Make sure to mention Rickard during the conversation.
Getting Out Of Jail
You’ll find yourself thrown into jail, but this isn’t a waste of time. Check your cell for the bed and interact with it to take a long rest.
This marks your first level-up in the game. Take your time here—don’t rush through it. Use this moment to understand your characters’ new abilities, as the choices you make will impact how well your party handles future fights. Keep an eye out for options to customize your characters’ level-up decisions, as the game doesn’t clearly notify you when these options are available.
From this point, the story becomes more central. A jailer will come to escort you, and you’ll need to follow him to meet Anabasia, the local leader. Pay close attention during this meeting—your dialogue here reveals important details about the political situation and your party’s tricky position in this new land.
After speaking with Anabasia, follow the jailer again. This escort will lead to your reunion with Rickard, ending the Two Inches From Death chapter.
Don’t rush these final scenes. The dialogue is important for world-building, helping you understand the circumstances your party now faces. Once it’s finished, the chapter is complete. Leave the room to retrieve your old gear and continue your adventure.
