Insania Rex is a formidable Immortal that players encounter roughly halfway through Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion. In any good RPG, a dragon fight is a must, and despite battling in futuristic mechs, this game includes one. During the fight, you’ll need to dodge powerful melee attacks and avoid a deadly breath weapon.
While Insania Rex can be relatively straightforward to defeat, its breath attack can suddenly change everything. If you’re unprepared, this single move can wipe out your progress. Here’s everything you need to know to beat this boss.
Best Build for Fighting Insania Rex
Armor:
Since Insania Rex hits hard, midweight or heavyweight armor works best. Maintaining a high VP helps you endure its breath attack, along with good Basic Defense. Adding Burn Resistance through attachments or ice cream can also be beneficial. The only exception is your helmet slot; here, prioritize Stamina Efficiency so you can dodge and chase more effectively, especially when trying to hold against its breath near the end.
Weapons:
The beast is weak to both Physical and Laser damage, depending on where you strike. Its underside is vulnerable to Physical damage, while its back armor is weak against Laser attacks. You’ll want a mix of weapon types for this fight.
Your main weapon should be the best Laser melee attack you can find, like Vermillion Knight, because Insania Rex has difficulty targeting behind its shoulders. For Physical damage, use knives and handguns with the Weak Point Exploit trait, which deal massive damage to its weak spot on the chest—sometimes more than higher-damage gear. Equipping the Caustic Blade skill can help by lowering its defense with corrosion.
Your third slot should hold an Energy Shield to block the breath weapon. Although you can survive with many Repair Sprays, a shield makes the fight much easier. For ranged attacks, choose a versatile weapon that focuses on Basic Damage, such as a Laser Rifle, which is one-handed and effective at all ranges.
Shoulder Mount and Auxiliary:
Homing missile systems like Meteorite are effective against Insania Rex since multiple parts of its large body are viable targets. The Devotion repair system is also useful for recovering from the breath attack. In the auxiliary slot, a Cooling System helps restore Stamina, which you need to keep your shield active against the dragon’s breath. If you don’t have a Cooling System, a Booster can help close the distance quickly if the boss tries to retreat from melee.
Strategy for Fighting Insania Rex
Begin by eliminating the smaller Immortals floating around the arena—they can be distracting and make the fight harder. Once cleared, stay above Insania Rex’s shoulders and repeatedly attack it with Laser melee combos. Dodging may be necessary after it repositions, but staying behind its back keeps you safe.
When you stagger the boss, switch to your knife or handgun and perform a grab at its weak point. Both weapons can attack repeatedly during a grapple without ending it, allowing you to deal several hundred damage each time. This is a great way to quickly reduce its VP.
Surviving the Breath Attack
When Insania Rex drops to about a third health, it will sprout wings and fly up to the ceiling. Prepare your shield, and ensure your Stamina and VP are full. Use Defense Up items if available.
Fly to the ceiling yourself to avoid the breath and face the boss directly. Hold your shield up to parry the attack, and if close enough, keep firing your firearm while guarding. Keep an eye on your Stamina—let it recharge if needed to prevent Armor Break, which causes health loss.
Remember, the breath deals damage over time, not all at once. If caught undefended, use Repair Sprays or Devotion to mitigate the damage—burning through your supply can be effective, though not ideal. After the attack, Insania Rex will descend and rest, giving you a chance to finish it off before it re-engages.
Rewards for Beating Insania Rex
Fighting Insania Rex multiple times via the Simulator yields better rewards. The first loot will usually be its Fusion Factor, which includes Might-14. That skill teaches Subjugation, allowing you to control nearby Immortals, and it’s a component for many powerful Weapon Skills.
Later encounters can reward you with Insania Rex’s Immortal Cores and the Development Designs for the Dragon Slayer armor series. The Dragon Slayer armor set provides a balanced mix of high VP, Laser Defense, and built-in Burn Resistance, making subsequent battles easier each time.
