From the start of Code Vein 2, it’s clear what the story’s main goal is. First, you need to defeat the heroes guarding the Resurgence. Then, you must take down the Resurgence itself. It’s both tragic and rewarding to see it all unfold. But the last hero you face is especially harsh.
Valentin, who appears briefly at the beginning of the game and again during the Free Exploration Era, is the final boss. You don’t get much time to get to know him, and his only friend is lost before you have a chance to see him again. Now, it’s up to you to lay him to rest.
Where Is Hero Valentin Fought?
Valentin is fought at the very end of the game in the Sealed Grounds. You reach this area through Lavinia, who teleports you straight to its center. After activating the mistle there, you can come and go as you please. Before facing Valentin, however, you must gather some Resurgence Energy by defeating three bosses nearby—these are the original versions of the heroes Josée, Holly, and Lyle. Once all three are defeated, you can return to Valentin’s cocoon and finally confront him.
Hero Valentin’s Moveset
Valentin is unique because his attack style depends on the mask he wears, although all his masks share a smaller, core set of attacks. He doesn’t really have a second phase, but once his health drops below 50%, he summons a floating hand to assist him. This hand has its own moves but doesn’t change the boss’s behavior much. Here are the key attacks to watch for:
Phase One
- Mask Swap: Valentin changes his mask, switching up his attack patterns.
- Delayed Spear Slashes: He prepares an attack with his spear, holding it for a long delay before striking. Sometimes followed by a spear slam.
- Spear Combo: A series of slash, spin, and slam attacks with the spear. The combo can be interrupted at any point.
- Healing Vortex: After a mask switch, Valentin pulls you inward then releases a burst that drains your health and heals him. Dodging at the last second can avoid this attack.
- Heavy Floating Slam: Following a mask change, Valentin floats up and then slams down, hitting everything around him.
- Buffing Stance: He pauses to buff himself for a few seconds.
- Poison Mist: Summons a cloud of purple mist around him.
- Furious Swings: Targets a player, rushing in with rapid slashes, ending with a slam and an uppercut.
- Grab Attack: When the mask shifts, his hand glows and rushes toward you; hitting you with this leads to a damaging grab.
- Missile Volley: Summons missiles and fires them into the air. They land a few moments later and can be dodged.
Phase Two
- Eldritch Arm: When his health hits about 50%, he summons a floating hand that assists in some attacks.
- Eldritch Arm Sweep: The hand swings around, knocking players away if hit.
- Eldritch Carousel Laser: The hand spins in the arena’s center, firing four lasers that deal high damage and inflict a status effect called Luna Rapacis. Valentin stays still during this.
- Laser Spear Slam: His spear attack ends with lasers rising from the ground around him.
- Eldritch Ground Lasers: The hand plants itself and summons lasers from the ground in all directions.
- Quick Eldritch Laser Spin: The hand spins quickly, firing lasers in a circle. Dodging or jumping can avoid this.
While performing a mask shift, Valentin pauses, giving you a moment to retreat or prepare. The mask influences his next attack, but it can be hard to see exactly which mask he’s wearing, so backing away slightly is a smart move.
How To Beat Hero Valentin
Valentin’s main trick is swapping masks, each linked to different bloodlines of Revenants. Although it’s hard to see which mask he’s wearing, it determines his attack type. Nearly all his spear attacks can be parried, which cancels the rest of the attack combo. Using tools like the Mutinous Bracer or Reaper Jail can be very helpful in this fight.
He tends to focus his attacks on you, but because his wide-reaching moves can hit even if he’s targeting your partner, it’s good to assimilate your partner for an extra damage boost. The most difficult attack is the Healing Vortex, as it prolongs the fight by letting him heal. When he starts this move, it’s best to stop attacking and focus on timing your dodge to avoid getting hit and stopping him from healing.
Phase Two isn’t an entirely new phase but becomes more dangerous when his health drops to around 50%. He summons a floating hand with laser attacks that can inflict Luna Rapacis, which disables your partner and prevents healing until the effect wears off. To handle this, keep some Luna Rapacis vaccines ready, as the boss’s behavior remains mostly the same, only adding a laser attack to his final slam attack.
Defeating Hero Valentin rewards you with the Hero Valentin Blood Code and the “A Hero’s End” ending.
