StarRupture is a sci-fi survival game that combines open-world exploration with detailed factory building and resource collection. While trying to stay alive on the planet Arcadia-7, you’ll face rugged terrain, radiation hazards, and hostile creatures that can attack you in seconds.
The planet is inhabited by spider-like alien creatures called “Vermin,” which won’t hesitate to attack. Some of these Vermin explode when nearby, while others slash at you, temporarily disabling your defenses. The Goliath, a large and intimidating creature, prefers direct confrontation, but with effort, it can be defeated.
Where to Find a Goliath
There isn’t a guaranteed spot where Goliaths spawn. However, I’ve found that the Abandoned Base/SMB “Copperfield” Selenian Mining Base, located far east of the Orbital Lander, is a reliable location. Multiple visits there often reveal one or two Goliaths among ruins filled with broken habitats and machinery. This area is marked by Wolfram archways and turns reddish in hue when you enter.
If you notice many small Vermin swarming you—more than usual—and larger ones like Exploders chasing after them, it’s a sign that a Goliath might be nearby. These swarms are often protecting something or someone, and you may see a large, rock-like creature emerging from the ground.
Keep in mind: if the Vermin realize you’re there, the Goliath will too.
How a Goliath Attacks
A Goliath has several attack styles. It rushes toward you quickly, with massive bone-like arms shielding its body. If you shoot it while it’s in this defensive stance, a shield icon appears, indicating your shot won’t do any damage.
When close enough, it charges full speed at you, whirling its sharp claws to deal severe damage. These attacks can break your shield swiftly.
Another threat is the ground-pound attack. The Goliath rears back and slams into the ground, sending out a shockwave of rocks and force. If you’ve already lost some health from its claws, this move can instantly kill you. Even if you survive, you’ll need to heal afterward. Warning signals include a red tint on the visuals and the Goliath raising its arms in preparation.
The Goliath almost always faces you directly, avoiding exposing its back—its vulnerable spot. Trying to circle around it is tricky, as it will turn to face you when you move sideways. The best strategy is to jump when it charges and seek higher ground, then quickly attack its legs or rear from above. Timing your moves to dodge its charge and hit its side legs can make the fight more manageable.
Defeating a Goliath
Ideally, fighting it with a team works best, but it’s definitely possible solo. The Goliath commands a vast army of Vermin—more than you’ve seen elsewhere on Arcadia-7—so it’s crucial to separate it from its minions. Running away and firing from a distance is often the best approach if you’re playing alone. Keep the Goliath chasing you, and shoot it until you can get a clear shot.
The Goliath aims to stay facing you at all times, so try to get behind it. You can do this by jumping when it charges and moving to higher ground, then firing into its legs or underbelly. If timed well, you can sidestep its charge and attack from the side.
When playing with friends, one person can lure the Goliath into charging while others keep their distance and shoot from behind. It doesn’t take immense firepower; targeting its weak spots is key. Heavy weapons are recommended over pistols or small harvesters, as they won’t be strong enough to take it down efficiently.
A first encounter with the Goliath might tempt you to run away. However, the real danger isn’t the creature itself but its swarm of Vermin. If you get far enough away and take them out one by one, defeating the Goliath will be much easier, and you can collect its sample for analysis. Be cautious when separating the Goliath from its minions; avoid running so far that you attract additional enemies, and always stay aware of your surroundings.
