Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a game centered around creativity and playing at your own pace. The new Slumber Islands feature takes this to the next level. Added in the free 3.0 update, this dream-world feature gives you a blank island separate from your main one. It’s a space designed for experimenting and collaborating without the worry of messing up your main island.

Slumber Islands don’t feel like just a side mode but more like Nintendo providing a creative sandbox. If you’ve ever wanted to terraform freely or build with friends in real time, learning how Slumber Islands work is the first step to making it happen.

### What Is Slumber Island?
A Slumber Island is a special dream-based feature. It allows you to create and customize your own dream islands that exist entirely within Luna’s dream world. Unlike visiting regular dream addresses, these islands are collaborative spaces where multiple players can visit, decorate, and terraform together. This makes them perfect for testing out layouts or creating projects without affecting your main island.

A regular Nintendo Switch Online membership is needed to create or visit a Slumber Island.

### How To Access Slumber Island
To visit a Slumber Island, lie down on any bed and select the “It’s slumber time” option. This transports you to Luna in a dream, where she will ask if you want to create a Slumber Island. You can pick between a small, medium, or large island, then choose one of four available map layouts. Each size has its own terrain rules, like river mouths and cliff setups. You can create up to three personal Slumber Islands per player.

### What Can You Do On Slumber Island?
Once your island is generated, it differs from a normal island in several ways. It doesn’t come with shops, public buildings, an airport, or villagers by default. Instead, there’s a single house for the island owner and a large pier at the entrance.

When you arrive, you start on the pier, where Luna manages your island options and multiplayer access. Lloid the gyroid is here, too, along with a mirror and wardrobe for changing your appearance. An archway leads into the island itself.

Customization is the main focus on a Slumber Island. By pressing the top-right ‘+’ button on your controller, you can freely terraform using the terrain tool. This lets you create or remove cliffs, dig rivers, and build waterfalls.

You can also place flowers, trees, and furniture from your storage anywhere on the island. Initially, the island doesn’t have weeds, rocks, or residents. Bridges and inclines are managed through Lloid at the pier, who provides a tool to place them without the usual construction limits.

### How To Invite Friends To Your Slumber Island
Multiplayer stands out as a key feature of Slumber Islands. By talking to Luna, the island owner can invite up to seven friends using a Doze Code. All visitors can decorate and terraform together. Progress is saved automatically, so you don’t need to worry about saving before leaving.
