Octopath Traveler 0 is a lengthy game. It’s definitely one of the longest JRPGs I’ve ever played, ranking alongside titles like Dragon Quest 7 and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The main story alone is quite substantial, and adding all the side content makes it even more extensive.
Since time is limited, it’s important to know what you’re getting into before choosing your protagonist and heading into Wishvale. Here’s what you can expect.
Main Story
The main storyline in Octopath Traveler 0 is estimated to take about 100 hours to complete, according to the developers. That’s not an exaggeration; I can see where they’re coming from with that estimate. The game’s structure includes a prologue, three arcs each divided into three chapters, an eight-chapter arc, then three more arcs with three chapters each, followed by another eight-chapter arc. It’s a massive undertaking.
In reality, it probably took me around 80 hours to progress from the beginning to the end of the main story, but 100 hours seems accurate for a dedicated playthrough. Most players will likely spend between 80 and 100 hours on the main story.
Main Story + Side Content
Beyond the main story, there’s a good amount of side content as well. While it adds hours of gameplay, it’s not as abundant as the main storyline, which was clearly the focus in this version of the game.
One significant addition is the eight-chapter Wishvale restoration arc—extra story material that’s optional but highly recommended. Including this, along with completing every Path Action, side story, battling elite enemies, participating in monster arena events, and exploring all content, can bring the total playtime to around 130 to 150 hours.
Overall, the primary story makes Octopath Traveler 0 quite lengthy, especially compared to many similar JRPGs. Digging deeply into the world of Orsterra, however, can push the total playtime even further without quite reaching the lengths of some of the longest JRPGs like Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Persona 5 Royal, or Star Ocean: The Last Hope.
