Silent Hill f offers a much deeper experience than it first appears. While a single playthrough takes about 10 hours, this initial journey is just the start. Konami seems to design the game so players will want to replay it multiple times.
After finishing the story for the first time, you’ll return to the main menu, where you’ll be notified that you’ve unlocked New Game Plus. This mode lets you carry over certain progress—specifically, your faith, stat upgrades, obtained omamori, some key items, and all non-puzzle documents and journal details. This prevents you from simply rushing through puzzles, as the game prevents quick solutions, and introduces new or altered challenges as the story takes unexpected turns. It’s more integrated into the narrative than just replaying for fun, like in Resident Evil or Dead Space.
To activate New Game Plus, just load your save file from your first completed campaign, and you’ll start a new game right where you left off.
In New Game Plus, you’ll notice some common features. Your character is stronger with all previous upgrades still in effect. However, the game varies enemy placements, as well as the locations of healing items and weapons, forcing you to adapt. Every element is slightly different, making you pause to consider how much has changed.
Most notably, the narrative receives additional content. These include new cutscenes, environmental details, notes, and other collectibles scattered around town. These bits reveal a lot more about the plot—information kept back in the first run—and enrich the overall story.
When watching cutscenes, you’ll see a message at the bottom indicating “Skip New Cutscenes” if they contain new material. This helps speed up playback of familiar parts, allowing you to focus on the fresh content.
New Game Plus also introduces new quests and unlockables. Right after leaving Hinako’s house, a neighbor’s home becomes accessible, where you can explore fully. Here, you can search for the Sacred Sword, a unique weapon needed to unlock one of the new game endings.
There are five different endings in total, including your first playthrough. Each has specific conditions for unlocking. The endings are tied directly to your choices and interactions during New Game Plus, involving different items and gameplay actions. While the details won’t be revealed here, they offer a variety of conclusions, one even including a UFO ending. All the conditions for these endings can be found in the game, but no spoilers are given—just be prepared to replay several times if you want to see all of them.
