Abiotic Factor
Abiotic Factor is a survival crafting game set in a chaotic underground facility. The game allows up to six players to play together in multiplayer mode, which can work over both local networks and online servers. New players can join ongoing games at any time, even hours after it starts, if the host has multiplayer enabled when creating the game. Using mods, server settings, or third-party hosting tools might let you increase the number of players beyond six.
Switching Between Single Player and Multiplayer
You can choose to play alone or with others for each game save. Every time you load a world, you decide whether to host a multiplayer session or play solo. This flexibility helps you easily share progress or set up your gameplay how you like each time.
How To Host A Game
To start a multiplayer game, launch the game and select ‘Enter the Facility’. You can load an existing save or create a new world. In the setup menu on the right side, uncheck single-player to let others join your game. You can set the maximum number of players (up to six), and choose between LAN or online mode. You also have the option to add a password to keep the session private.
Before starting, you can customize sandbox options like the speed of day/night cycles, how fast food spoils, enemy strength, loot drop rates, and item stack sizes. Once ready, click Host Game. Your world is now live, and other players can join either at the beginning or in the middle of the game using the lobby code or server browser.
What Are The In-Game Options?
While hosting, press Esc to access game settings and management tools. Under Player Management, you’ll see two tabs: Players and Administrators. The Players tab shows everyone in the game and their mute status. The Administrators tab displays active admins and any banned players. From this menu, you can also change the server password, access the console, and force save the game.
Note: Multiplayer sessions cannot be paused.
Other in-game tools include:
- Invite friends: Send lobby invites directly through your Steam friend list.
- Lobby code: Reveal or copy the session code so others can join your game.
- Reset VOIP: Fix voice chat issues by resetting the in-game communication system.
How To Join A Game
To join a multiplayer game, choose ‘Enter the Facility’ and click Join a Server. Use the server browser to search by server name or settings. Make sure options like Show password or Show modded servers are enabled. When you find the server, select it and click Join. Enter the password if prompted.
If your server isn’t listed, you can switch to LAN mode or use Direct Connect with the host’s IP address, port, and password. Alternatively, right-click a Steam friend who is hosting and select Join Game.
Does Abiotic Factor Support Crossplay?
Yes, Abiotic Factor fully supports crossplay between PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 after the 1.0 Cold Fusion update. You can turn crossplay on or off by pressing Esc while hosting, opening the Gameplay tab (icon of a human with nodes), and checking or unchecking the Crossplay option near the bottom. Disabling it will restrict access to players on your own platform.
Note: Mods are only supported on PC, so console players cannot run modded content even in shared sessions.
Crossplay is enabled by default, allowing different platform groups to play together, though there might be occasional connectivity issues between Xbox and PlayStation.
Does Abiotic Factor Have Cross-Progression?
Abiotic Factor supports cross-progression across all official platforms: PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Your saves, unlocked recipes, story progress, and achievements are stored online and can be accessed from any system using the same account. This includes Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus subscribers. Just sign in with your account to continue playing where you left off, no matter the device.
If you use Xbox and PC, you’ll benefit further from Xbox Play Anywhere, which eliminates the need to buy the game twice and allows seamless access across both platforms. Make sure you’re connected to the internet for your account to sync properly.
Offline play may require you to manually sync your saves before switching devices.
