“Tales of the Shire” is about preparing tasty meals and sharing your dishes with the townspeople. To make your meals more delicious, you need to use top-quality ingredients. The crops you grow will be used in many dishes, so improving their quality is essential.
Boosting food quality requires effort and experimentation. The more you grow crops, the better you’ll understand which plants work well together. By applying specific strategies, you can consistently produce high-quality crops. One effective mechanic to speed this up is companion planting.
### How to Grow Quality Crops Using Companion Planting
Tales of the Shire uses a technique called companion planting to enhance crop quality. This means growing compatible plants close to each other in the same pot.
Before planting seeds, hover a new seed over existing plants in a pot. You’ll notice some face symbols — if the faces look happy, it’s good to plant the new crop. If they look sad, it’s better to keep it in a separate pot to prevent the quality from dropping.
Completing club missions can reward you with high-quality crops and rare seeds. Sometimes, you might even find rare seeds at Farmer Cotton’s shop.
Companion planting is partly based on chance, so sometimes it doesn’t produce the desired quality. However, you can improve your odds by growing many happy crops together.
You can buy larger pots from Farmer Cotton, which allow you to plant more crops at once. These pots are costly—at least 500 coins—and you might need to earn or sell vegetables and fish to afford them.
Another simple trick is planting flower seeds alongside your crops. While you can’t cook with flowers, suitable flowers can significantly increase the quality of your veggies. This method can help you produce two-star vegetables more efficiently.
You can obtain flower seeds through quests or by trading with Rosie Cotton.
