In “Hollow Knight: Silksong,” the double jump ability can totally change how you move around the map and fight enemies. But finding or unlocking this skill isn’t easy. You’ll need to progress into Act 2 before you can get it, and you’ll also need some other movement abilities first.
The double jump comes from the Faydown Cloak, a feathered upgrade that gives Hornet more lift. To get this, you first need to obtain the Clawline before heading to the Slab to access Mount Fay. After that, there’s some tricky platforming, but if you’ve made it this far, you should be able to handle it.
How to Reach Mount Fay
If you don’t already have the Clawline, you need to get it first. Start by grabbing the White Key from the Songclave area in the Citadel. Then go down to the depths beneath the Choral Chambers to find the Clawline in the heart of Whiteward. For detailed steps, check out our Clawline location guide.
Once you have the Clawline, go to the Slab to the left of Choral Chambers. If you’ve unlocked the Bellway there, you can fast travel. Exit the Bellway to the left and look for hooks you can Clawline across to reach Mount Fay.
Tip: Make sure you have a Rosary string with 60 beads — you’ll need it to unlock a helpful bench before you get the Faydown Cloak.
At this spot, you’ll meet Shakra at a bench. Rest there and buy the map if you have enough Rosaries.
How to Climb Mount Fay & Get the Faydown Cloak
Your climbing adventure starts here. Jump onto the platforms on your left and then go right above. Outside, use your jump and Clawline to climb up some platforms and enemies. Expect to lose some health from the cold, but don’t worry — you can handle it.
At the top of the first climb, go inside to the left. Keep moving forward and use Clawline jumps to cross a cold lake. If you fall, keep trying — you might still make it across before freezing.
In the next area, find a sign for a bench. Head out the left of the sign, drop down, and break the wall to access a bench. This costs 60 Rosaries now (used to be 90), so a single Rosary string will do it. Rest up before continuing.
Climb out of this area and keep going outside. Be careful with your jumps: don’t double-tap too quickly, or you’ll float and lose height. Use your Clawline to bounce off enemies, which helps you jump higher.
Move to the right platform and float down through a spiky corridor to reach a warm spot. From there, repeat the Clawline jumping, bouncing from enemy to enemy.
Eventually, you’ll break a wall on the right to make it easier to go back to your starting point. But be cautious — you only have one more climb before reaching a bench. When you arrive above, break the wall to your left for another resting spot.
After one last climb, jump into the next area, go left over the spikes, and catch the updraft. Move quickly, or you’ll freeze. Head to the right, check the tuning mechanism, and summon the big bird using the Needolin. This will give you the Faydown Cloak.
How Double Jump Works
Once you have the cloak, double jumping is simple: press the jump button again while you’re in the air. Holding the jump button makes you slow your fall. The Faydown Cloak will also keep you warm, which might have been more useful before the climb than afterward.
Getting the Cloak unlocks new areas and may make tough Act 2 fights easier. Before leaving Mount Fay, you can descend the left slope to meet the Mask Maker NPC. No items are given for this, but it’s worth meeting him, and later, you can take on a hard quest to deliver an item.
Although unlocking the Faydown Cloak is a challenge, it’s well worth the effort. Having it makes your journey through Mount Fay and the rest of “Silksong” a bit easier.
