Hollow Knight: Silksong has many hidden areas and items scattered throughout its world of Pharloom. Because of this, it’s possible to miss some of the best tools in the game. If you’ve already found the Ruined Tool and crafted your Silkshot, keep in mind that there are two other versions you will never be able to access again.
The Ruined Tool is a special crafting resource that can be turned into three different types. You choose which one to make based on where you take it, and once you decide, the other two options become unavailable forever. Even though all three versions of the Silkshot have similar purposes, each one has unique abilities and strengths.
Before you can craft any of these Silkshot variations, you first need to find the Ruined Tool. Getting to it isn’t too hard, but the journey through the Bilewater area is the biggest challenge. Start at the Bilewater Bellway station, go right until you reach the broken-down Weavenest. After playing the Needolin for a few seconds and passing through some tight spaces, you’ll find the Ruined Tool sitting on a table.
The first upgrade for Hornet’s Silkshot can be found just below the peak of Mount Fay. You need to unlock the Clawline upgrade from the Underworks first. There’s a hidden ledge under the mountaintop that leads to a secret room, where the Ancient Machine is located. Using just one Craftmetal, you can craft this first Silkshot version. It fires a single charged attack that can pierce through enemies and projectiles, making it especially powerful for dealing damage or crowd control. It’s the most damaging of the three options, ideal for fighting tough bosses or enemies attacking from a distance, although charging it can leave you vulnerable.
The second Silkshot variation is easier to get. You only need to pay 130 Rosaries and provide a Craftmetal to the Twelfth Architect in the Underworks near the Ventrica. Keep in mind, buying all items from this merchant will remove the option to get this Silkshot later, so craft it beforehand if you prefer this version. Unfortunately, this version is the weakest. It shoots a burst of projectiles, but its damage decreases significantly with each shot, making it less effective overall despite its quick fire rate.
The third Silkshot can be obtained from the Forge Daughter, located to the right of the Deep Docks’ Bellway station. It costs 240 Rosaries plus a Craftmetal. This version works like a traditional firearm, firing a quick, single shot of Silk. It does less damage per hit than the Mount Fay version but can fire much faster. Overall, it’s considered the best of the three for most situations because of its versatility. The Mount Fay version remains a solid option if you want maximum power for specific encounters.
