Hints for Today’s Connections Categories
FEBRUARY 20 #620
I took some time with this puzzle, but eventually, everything clicked. There were a few words I initially grouped together that I later discovered did not belong in the same category. I also ended up categorizing one group completely by chance, but that didn’t bother me at all. To save you from any surprises, here are some hints:
- One category features items designed to attract attention.
- Another category includes four words that describe common occurrences when you find yourself running late.
- A specific time of day characterizes one of the categories.
- The last category features four items all from the same TV show.
If you’re still seeking additional help, you can explore the category names, or jump directly to the solutions.

ALERT |

ALARM |
FLARE |
SIGNAL |
SOS |
This was the first category I identified, although it was a bit tricky. I briefly considered ROOSTER and SUNRISE as fits and even thought about SLEEP too. This was due to their links to being “alarms.” However, upon seeing SOS, I realized it was linked to a “rescue” alert rather than an alarm clock, which ultimately led me to finish that category.

BUNK |
CRASH |
SLEEP |
STAY |
Once I figured out the first category, I began to see the connection with the rest. This is because all the words relate to concepts involving sleep. If you BUNK or CRASH at a friend’s house, it’s typically out of necessity. However, SLEEP and STAY suggest a more planned arrangement compared to the others. The nuances between these terms became clearer once I grouped them together.

ASSOCIATED WITH EARLY MORNING |

DEW |
ROOSTER |
SUNRISE |
WORM |
This category is one of my favorites; it exudes relaxation and charm. I’ve always adored SUNRISES, and they bring back fond memories of my time as a morning barista. While I’m not a fan of waking up early, the beauty of a sunrise and a stunning view comfort me. The crowing of a ROOSTER isn’t so enjoyable, but besides that, this category brings me joy. Even a worm surfacing from the earth invokes memories of freshly-turned soil, which I find pleasantly soothing.

TRIANGLE |
UMBRELLA |
This was the second-to-last category I identified, and I’m not sure how it happened. Scanning through the final eight words, I noticed three of them were shapes. I chose UMBRELLA as a wildcard, and surprisingly, it completed the category. I must admit, I’ve never watched the show Squid Game because I don’t have Netflix, and everyone I know seems to refer to it in the plural!
