When you arrive at the Emerald Stairs section of Avowed, you will have already grasped the basic mechanics of the game. Besides the main storyline, there are numerous side quests to explore, and the ones in the Emerald Stairs area are particularly noteworthy.
One such quest is the Food Theft, which you might miss if you complete the main story in this area first. Here’s how you can track down the stolen food and what actions you can take afterward.
Finding the Food Theft Quest
Upon reaching the Emerald Stairs map, the only marked location will likely be the city of Fior Mes Iverno, the main settlement in this region. The Food Theft quest is located nearby.
Head towards Fior Mes Iverno and move east from the city’s southern entrance. As you continue, keep an eye out for a distressed NPC located near the Farmer’s Market. Speaking with them will initiate this quest.
Locating the Stolen Food
Once you engage with Sielo Piannini, he will inform you about some bandits that had stolen his food shortly before your arrival. After your conversation, the area where the bandits are located will be tagged on your map, situated at the northern edge of Emerald Stairs. You’ll be able to find Riverside Cave in this vicinity.
Tip: Before you enter the cave, don’t miss the chance to grab a golden chest found on the small island in the center of the river.
Once inside the cave, make your way through several rooms until you reach the final area where you’ll encounter Ortrud and Erlinn. The cave is filled with Paradisan rebels, so be prepared for a challenge, especially if you didn’t spare Ygwulf in Dawnshore during the main story.
Before you enter the leaders’ room, you can spot a breakable barrier on the right side of the entrance. This path leads to a hidden part of the cave with several purple chests, and there’s another golden chest waiting just behind the bandit leaders.
What to Do With the Stolen Food
If you manage to reach Erlinn and Ortrud peacefully, they will be open to discussing the fate of the stolen food. You have a few options:
-
You can allow the rebels to keep the food, which will reward you with 350 currency. However, this will upset Sielo, and he won’t provide you with any rewards.
-
Alternatively, you can persuade them to part with the food without resorting to violence. This requires the Ygwulf mercy choice, as it will help gain their goodwill. If you opt for this method, be ready to battle some other rebels on your way out. If successful, Sielo will reward you with the 350 currency.
- Finally, you can choose to fight the rebels and take the food by force. This option yields some extra loot from their bodies, but you’ll face all the rebels simultaneously. The reward from Sielo will remain the same regardless of the path you take.
Ultimately, the rewards are consistent no matter your approach, so it’s entirely up to you which route you want to take.
