Mission Overview: The Untimely End in Avowed
In the Untimely End mission of Avowed, your goal is to reach the Watcher, but you will face a significant challenge that prevents you from proceeding through conventional methods. The Watcher’s location is clearly marked on your map, making it straightforward to identify. However, the collapse of a bridge over the water creates a barrier that you cannot cross directly.
Navigating Challenges
This situation forces you to engage with the game’s mechanics creatively, similar to other quests available. You’ll discover various methods to traverse the obstacle, particularly through the use of magical abilities. Nearby, there’s a hidden weapon that can enhance your ability to navigate this challenge.

Getting To The Watcher In Avowed
Discovering an Icy Solution
To cross the lake and meet the Watcher during the Untimely End mission in Avowed, you will need to employ an ice-based magic spell or a weapon infused with ice powers. This technique allows you to freeze sections of the water, creating platforms for crossing. The spell Blizzard is one of the most useful spells to learn early in the game. A simple way to access this magic is by visiting the Memory at the Watcher’s Mirror nearby, where you can obtain an ice-based weapon.
As shown on the map, the Watcher’s Mirror, located close to the lake, contains an Ancient Memory that will take you through a lore-rich cutscene. After this, one of the unique weapons, Drawn in Winter, will become available on a nearby platform. You will encounter several foes before you can claim the weapon, but once they are dealt with, you can resume your quest by making your way back to the lake. While it’s not the most powerful weapon in Avowed, it’s still quite effective.
Utilizing "Drawn In Winter" to Cross the Lake
Just Keep Swinging
Now that you have the Drawn in Winter weapon, swing the axe towards the water. If you’re positioned correctly, sections of the lake will freeze, enabling you and your companions to cross. The path to the Watcher should be simple afterward. Just follow the arrow on your map, and you’ll soon stand in front of the Watcher’s dwelling.
Tip: If you swing the axe and the water isn’t freezing, adjust your camera angle lower to ensure the axe connects with the water.
Once you reach the house, you’ll find a Perturbed Patron nearby who will offer you a coin to cast into the pond after your reading. The Watcher will be inside, ready for your encounter, regardless of your decision. As long as you possess an ice-enhanced weapon or spell, you can overcome watery obstacles in Avowed and access difficult-to-reach areas.
