Shell Shards are one of the main currencies in Silksong. At first, it might be confusing what they’re really used for since they don’t have a clear purpose right away. You’ll find them dropped by most enemies you defeat, with only a few exceptions—usually enemies created or summoned by others. You can also find Shell Shards from treasure chests, breaking certain parts of the environment, and in bundles that you can open in your inventory.
In the game, Shell Shards serve a couple of important roles. One of their primary uses is to refill limited tools you can use in combat, such as the Straight Pin or Longpin. These tools aren’t free, so when they run out, you can restore their ammo by spending Shell Shards at benches. Additionally, Shell Shards are needed to complete certain quests and fulfill requests, like the “Bone Bottom Repairs” or “A Lifesaving Bridge,” which require large amounts of these shards as donations.
Think of Shell Shards mostly as a kind of ammo, except in special cases where you might give them to a merchant or quest giver. However, such exchanges are rare and usually happen only in specific situations.
