Companion quests are pretty important in The Outer Worlds 2. Some of them are urgent, meaning you need to finish them quickly before something bad happens or they disappear. Inez is one of these quests, so it’s important to act fast once you recruit her.
But there’s a catch. You’ll have to choose between two upgrades for her, and that choice is permanent. While you do need to be quick, you also have to make a decision that can be stressful if you don’t have all the information.
How to Recruit Inez and Start Her Quest
You can find Inez on Paradise Island in Fairfield. Since Niles and V.A.L.E.R.I.E. (Val) are given to you early on, Inez is the first companion you can truly recruit in the game. She becomes available in the first zone after the introduction, in the Fairfield area on Paradise Island. Once you unlock her, it’s best to visit your quest log and start her companion quest right away, as it’s located nearby.
Talk to Ethel Tinsley nearby to begin your search for either the Raptidon Fin or the Crabble Claw. One of these items will be attached to Inez, increasing her combat abilities and helping her survive longer. The game will tell you exactly where to find these monsters near Fairfield on Paradise Island.
Should You Pick the Fin or the Claw?
After testing both options, most players, including us, lean towards choosing the Raptidon Fin. It changes Inez’s role into more of a support character, so you won’t need to rely on Val as her main healer. The Crabble Claw turns her into more of a damage dealer, but given the number of companions, you might not need that damage boost.
Important: Whatever choice you make, it’s permanent. Be sure to choose the upgrade you want Inez to have for the rest of the game.
To get the Raptidon Fin, go north, then head west around the mountain before going east into the Raptidon Matriarch cave. Defeat the creature there to get the item. If you decide to go for the Claw, it’s located in the southwest part of Paradise Island.
Finish Inez’s Quest Quickly – She Might Not Survive If You Wait
Inez really needs the graft to stay alive. If you take too long to complete her quest, she could die. After nearly finishing the missions on the second planet, Dorado, I was told to “visit Inez’s cabin” and found her dead. This penalty adds a lot of weight to your choices and actions in the game, which makes it very exciting. Even on easier difficulty levels, you need to pay close attention to the world around you.
