Imaginary Friends are fun and nostalgic features in The Sims 4: Adventure Awaits. These playful companions are inspired by The Sims 3 but have a new twist. They give players special interactions and ways to shape what their children will become as they grow up.
In addition to helping define a child’s personality and traits, imaginary friends provide emotional support and can influence how children interact within the game world. This guide covers everything you need to know about Imaginary Friends, including how to unlock them, what they can do, and how they can make your Sims’ lives more interesting.
How to Get an Imaginary Friend
To get an imaginary friend in Adventure Awaits, you first need to buy a doll. The game offers four different options. The ImagineMe! Doll can be found in Build Mode, and hovering over it shows what kind of personality it has. You can change the doll’s personality by interacting with it — for example, choosing whether your unicorn should be mischievous or kind.
Your household can own multiple ImagineMe! Dolls, but each child Sim can only have one imaginary friend at a time. The other dolls will stay dolls, not turn into friends.
The default personalities of the dolls are:
- Pretty Pegacord: Evil
- Wild Child: Competitive
- Lil Monster: Goofy
- Krafty Kid: Creative
How to Transform an ImagineMe! Doll
There are three ways to turn a doll into a real imaginary friend that can walk and talk. The easiest way is to have your child Sim play with the doll enough to build a friendship. Once they’re close, a new option called “Turn into Imaginary Friend” will appear.
Other methods include reaching Creativity Skill level 3 or making the child lonely enough that their social needs drop. However, having your child play keeps things friendly and fun.
When your child’s friendship with the doll is strong enough, you can choose to breathe life into the doll. The imaginary friend will then be able to interact, play, and spend time with your child. To other Sims, it looks like the child is talking to themselves or playing alone.
Interacting with an imaginary friend can boost your Sim’s mood, making them feel happy or more creative, depending on the type you pick.
How to Turn the Imaginary Friend Into a Sim
Once a doll becomes a real imaginary friend and your child is friendly enough with it, you can choose to make them part of the household when your child reaches teen age. This means they will live with the family as a normal Sim.
How to Get Rid of Your Imaginary Friend
If you decide you no longer want the imaginary friend around, you can send them away forever. Selecting “Say Goodbye Forever” will make your Sim and the imaginary friend part ways permanently. This will give your child the “Fictitious Friend No More” sentiment, which is like saying goodbye to a special friend.
If you don’t want to permanently remove them, you can temporarily send the imaginary friend back to “Imaginary Land.” This way, the friend can return later if you change your mind.
Even after ending their friendship permanently, your Sim can still interact with the doll in difficult times, which can help improve their mood when they’re feeling down.
