You can find a free Shiny Mareep in Pokémon Legends: Z-A early in the game without needing to do a Shiny Hunt. However, you’ll need to know where to look for it. This new main series game has some big changes compared to the previous ones. Shiny Hunting is now more challenging because of an auto-save feature and the absence of a breeding system.
Despite these changes, the game was popular because it runs better than the last two versions and introduces a fresh gameplay system. Review sites, like Screen Rant, praise its real-time combat and the way Wild Zones and Battle Zones are balanced.
How to Start the Quest “A Shiny Mareep?”
Find NPC Duve Near Wild Zone 1
To begin, you need to find Duve, an NPC located just outside the north entrance to Wild Zone 1 in the Vert District. He’s usually with two regular Mareep, so he’s easy to spot. When you talk to him, he’ll tell you he saw a Shiny Mareep and ask for your help to find it. Once you start the quest, you’ll want to explore Wild Zone 1 to find one of the best Pokémon to catch early on.
Where to Find the Shiny Mareep in Legends: Z-A
The Pokémon appears on the highest rooftop in Wild Zone 1. To reach it, enter through the same entrance where you met Duve, then head west toward a small lake. Nearby, there’s a staircase that will take you up to the rooftop. After climbing, a short cutscene will trigger, showing the Shiny Mareep. You’ll then call Duve to see the Pokémon, completing the side mission. You’ll earn 500 Pokémon Dollars and three Pretty Feathers. Once the mission ends and Duve leaves, you’re free to catch the Shiny Mareep in Wild Zone 1.
Note: Be quick while catching it, as other wild Pokémon in the area might be hostile. Use a Repeat Ball if you’ve already caught a Mareep, a Quick Ball if it hasn’t seen you, or a Dusk Ball if it’s nighttime.
A Shiny Mareep can evolve into a shiny Ampharos, which is a great partner for Mega Greninja, Mega Delphox, or Mega Chesnaught. Ampharos can Mega Evolve in this game, so having a shiny Mega Ampharos looks impressive in your team.
