Silent Hill f’s scarecrows are pretty mysterious, especially when you’re playing on the Hard puzzle difficulty. They become even harder to figure out on the Lost in the Fog setting. Instead of giving you a clear description of your goal, you’re just dropped into a field filled with scarecrows and given a vague hint.
If you’ve already finished Silent Hill f on an easier setting, you’ll have a general idea of what to do here. Still, it’s a tough puzzle, but knowing which scarecrows to select can help you move through it quickly. Be careful, though—the last field has a twist that changes things up.
Lost in the Fog Scarecrow Locations
First Scarecrow
While Lost in the Fog doesn’t include a note telling you to remove a thorn, the basic rules are the same as on the Hard difficulty. You need to identify the correct scarecrow and pull out the nail in it. If you pick the wrong one, it will attack you. Once you find the right scarecrow, it’ll point you to the next field.
The safest scarecrow to approach is the stiff one in front. When you approach, you’ll see a clue:
“It’s your funeral today. I think I’ll give you a standing ovation.”
Take the sickle from its hand — it’s not needed but can serve as a weapon.
Next, find the scarecrow with its head hanging down over its chest, especially one with a twisted position. Look for the nail in its torso and pull it out. This reveals a note about a girl drowning in a rice field. The scarecrow will then point in a direction, which you should follow to move on. Use the wind-blown grass as a loose guide, and if you get lost, you’ll just end up back where you started. Follow the direction carefully and try again.
Second Scarecrow
When you reach a new field, interact with the stiff scarecrow again for the next clue.
“It’s your funeral today. Good riddance. It feels as though I finally got this painful burden off my chest.”
Approach the downcast scarecrow with a sickle at her feet and pull out the nail in her right shoulder. This reveals a note about another drowning, warning children not to play in waterways and fields. Follow the indicated direction to find the next field.
Third Scarecrow
In the next area, the clue is:
“It’s your funeral today. You hurt him, and now you’re leaving him behind. I hope you suffer for what you’ve done.”
Find the scarecrow lying on the ground with a sickle in its chest, then look toward the unarmed female scarecrow walking away. Approach her, extract the nail, and you’ll get a note with more details about the drowning. Follow the new direction to the next field.
Fourth Scarecrow
Here, the clue reads:
“It’s your funeral today. You were such a thorn in my side. Always getting between me and him.”
Find the scarecrow standing between two others facing opposite directions, as shown above. Pull out the nail—this message again warns about drownings and urges parents to keep children safe. Now, head toward the next scarecrow.
Fifth and Final Scarecrow
The last clue is:
“It’s your funeral today. Goodbye, and don’t ever come back. Just do your own thing, like always.”
This stage is different. Instead of looking at nearby scarecrows, focus on the scarecrow lying on the ground that’s pointing the way. Follow this sequence, which resets if you go off course, until you reach another scarecrow that appears to have gone off on its own. Pull the nail to see the final message about drowned children—this time with a cruel twist involving Hinako’s name instead of the child’s.
After this, a jump scare ends the puzzle, and soon you’ll find yourself out of the fields, ready to continue your journey in Silent Hill f.
