A new update for Arc Raiders has just been released, and it’s bringing winter to the top side of the game. Called the “Cold Snap” update, it adds new quests, map weather conditions, and the Flickering Flames event for players to enjoy.
This update offers free content accessible to everyone, along with cosmetic items to collect. Here’s everything you need to know about the Flickering Flames event.
### Cold Snap Event
One of the most significant changes is a new map condition where the environment is blanketed in snow with freezing winds. While this creates stunning visuals, it also affects gameplay. Unlike most weather effects, the snowstorm can cause damage to your health if you’re outside for too long.
You’ll need to move between shelters to stay warm, as lingering outside will drain your health gradually. You can tell when your character is affected by shivering—signs include rubbing their hands together, visibly shivering, and snow accumulating on their body. To prevent this, find buildings to warm up. When you’re warmed up, the snow on your character will melt, signaling you’re no longer in the frostbite zone. Not all abandoned shacks are equally insulated, so watch your character’s shivering; if it continues, you’re still taking damage.
You can also gather snowball piles and craft snowballs to throw at enemies or even other players. They’re harmless but fun for some snowy battles.
### The Flickering Flames Project
This event centers around completing a series of tasks, similar to an expedition, to donate items and celebrate the occasion. You’ll need items such as Empty Wine Bottles, Durable Cloth, and Plastic—these materials might seem unnecessary in regular gameplay, but they become valuable during this event.
Here’s a simplified breakdown of each step and what you’ll need:
| Step | Materials Needed |
|——-|———————|
| Step 1 | 20 Candleberries, 5 Durable Cloth, 1 Empty Wine Bottle, 25 Plastic Parts |
| Step 2 | 50 Candleberries, 3 Candle Holders, 1 Industrial Battery, 3 Light Bulbs |
| Step 3 | 60 Candleberries, 10 Duct Tape, 2 Film Reels, 5 Snap Blast Grenades |
| Step 4 | 60 Candleberries, 2 Coffee Pots, 10 Fireball Burgers, 2 Water Filters |
| Step 5 | 70 Candleberries, 2 Frying Pans, 7 Mushrooms, 2 Music Albums |
Be cautious, as once you commit materials to a step, they are gone permanently. Don’t worry if you don’t have much of some items; many materials don’t have significant alternate uses, so sacrificing them isn’t a big loss. Completing these steps grants you Merits, Raider Tokens, and usable items for raids.
### How to Get Candleberries
Candleberries are a new resource tied exclusively to the Cold Snap event. You’ll need a total of 260 to complete everything in the Flickering Flames project.
Fortunately, acquiring Candleberries isn’t difficult. You can earn 180 by leveling up the Candleberries gathering rewards track, which progresses as you earn Merits. Merits are awarded based on XP gained during matches, which you accumulate naturally through gameplay, especially if you focus on killing enemies and completing objectives.
You’ll also find Candleberries in the wild during snowstorms, on bushes with bright red berries that can be looted for about 1-3 berries per bush. These bushes are often grouped together. Raider Caches are another reliable source—they usually hold 3 to 5 Candleberries each. Additionally, rare baskets near natural points of interest often contain larger amounts.
Good spots to hunt for Candleberries include:
– Hydroponic Dome Complex on Dam Battlegrounds
– Marano Park in Buried City
– The small forest between Container Storage and East Plains Warehouse on Spaceport
### Candleberries Event Tracker
A new Merit-based reward tracker is part of the event, giving out cosmetic items and Candleberries for completing milestones. There are 25 rewards to unlock, which require earning Merits, awarded for every 100 XP gained in matches.
Good gameplay, killing enemies, and completing event steps will yield thousands of XP and thus Merits. While you can earn a significant number of Merits passively by playing, you can also boost your total by completing specific steps in the Flickering Flames project, like turning in items such as Light Bulbs for extra Merit points.
Here’s a simplified Merit requirements and rewards list:
