FBC: Firebreak, a multiplayer spin-off of Control, has not performed well for Remedy Entertainment. Even though it gained over one million players in its first month thanks to Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus, it struggles to retain many of them.
Currently, FBC has a peak of just 85 players in 24 hours on Steam, and that number has dropped into the double digits within three weeks. For context, PlayStation’s other shooter, Concord, took over a week to dip below 100 players. Players on the Steam Forums are already calling FBC a “Concord competitor.”
FBC’s reviews aren’t too bad, with an average ‘Mixed’ rating on Steam. However, its player numbers have fallen so much that it now ranks 2,097 on the Steam top-sellers list. Surprisingly, S&Box, a spiritual successor to Garry’s Mod that hasn’t even been released yet, has more players. Its developer preview has reached a peak of 992 players and a 24-hour peak of 141, while FBC has trouble maintaining its numbers.
FBC Is Now Barely In Steam’s Top 3,500 Games
Recently, we noted that FBC had fallen out of Steam’s top 1,800 games, and the situation has only gotten worse. It is now ranked 3,462, trailing behind games like Nunholy and Counter-Strike: Condition Zero Deleted Scenes. Even a game called ‘Loot Box,’ which has ‘Mostly Negative’ reviews, is ahead of it.
Remedy seems aware of FBC’s struggles. In a tweet celebrating one million players, they mentioned that “there is still a lot of work” to do. The current activity level of those players is unclear, as discussions on Steam Forums paint a grim picture.
Players have shared frustrations about finding matches even with cross-platform play enabled. Many are calling FBC “officially dead.” Some had hoped for a “decent discount” during the Summer Sale to boost player numbers, but that did not happen. Rebuilding its community will be a challenge, especially when those remaining players cannot reliably find games.
