Getting to the Inventor in Death Stranding 2 is a unique challenge that requires some problem-solving skills. They reside on a secluded island near F1 West Fort Knot, and there’s no direct bridge or road to access them. Even if you manage to find a way there, they might not greet you right away. However, making the effort is worthwhile, as you can gain access to some of the best gear in the game by building your reputation with this reclusive character.
Below, I’ll outline the different methods you can use to reach the Inventor, how to get to their island relatively easily, and the steps to make them willing to interact with you. There are several approaches, but one is particularly straightforward: navigating through the water.
Reaching the Inventor’s Island in Death Stranding 2
The Inventor can be found off the coast near the Special Alloy mine by the F1 West Fort Knot settlement. Here are some ways to reach them:
- Scan the Ocean with Your Odradek. While walking along the coast, press L1 to scan the water. Although most of it will appear red, look for yellow segments that indicate shallower areas. There are at least three paths that will let you walk through the water. These paths are not straight, so keep scanning to navigate effectively.
- Take the Monorail. Once the monorail connecting F1 Mine and F2 Settlement is fully built, hop on from either end and travel to the opposite settlement. The track goes over the Inventor’s island, allowing you to drop down onto it without taking damage. Note that you need to completely rebuild this section of the track for this option to work.
- Build Devices to Cross the Water. If you want to create your own path, consider constructing a zip-line or using a Transponder. You will need to reach the island in some other way first to set this up, but it will make transporting cargo across the water much easier later on. Once transponders are available, you’ll have more options for fast travel, further easing your navigation.
How to Unlock and Talk to the Inventor
When you finally reach the Inventor, you may still need to meet specific criteria before they open the door to interact with you. To successfully connect them to the Chiral Network, ensure you bring a piece of cargo intended for delivery to them. You can either pick up cargo from local settlements or find lost cargo scattered in the world—either option will work.
After delivering any cargo to the Inventor, you’ll be able to connect them to the Chiral Network and interact like you would with any other settlement. It’s definitely a good idea to invest time in the Inventor because, when you reach a 4-Star reputation, you’ll unlock the Bola Stun Gun, one of the best stealth weapons available in Death Stranding 2.
