Hints for Today’s Connections
FEBRUARY 28 #628
Today’s puzzle falls into the medium difficulty range. It’s manageable, but it does have spots that require some thought. Plus, the puzzle-makers have been opting for quite lengthy category names as of late, and it appears today features a title that might just take the cake for the longest. It’s a bit challenging to fit those lengthy names into small boxes. Luckily, I’m sharing some hints to help you through this puzzle effortlessly.
- One category pertains to traits or qualities that a person may possess.
- Another category involves various nicknames for a specific type of individual.
- One category includes words that describe someone’s mental state.
- Lastly, there’s a category for words commonly used in similar phrases with roughly the same meaning.
Should you still be finding it tricky to identify these categories, being aware of their names will certainly aid you. Utilize the names in the boxes provided to give yourself an advantage, and if that’s still not sufficient, scroll down for some spoilers.

BE INDECISIVE |

HESITATE |
WAFFLE |
WAVER |
YO-YO |
I found this to be a straightforward category, as words like WAVER and WAFFLE jumped out at me after just a moment of contemplation. While it wasn’t the easiest category of yellow, it also wasn’t particularly challenging. If I had spotted any other words that could have complemented YO-YO, things might not have worked out so smoothly. I might not personally use that term to describe someone’s indecisiveness, but I can appreciate why others might. Thankfully, I didn’t HESITATE for too long and wrapped up this category quickly.

LOVELY PERSON |

ANGEL |
DEAR |
DOLL |
PEACH |
This category was a bit more challenging for me, and I believe it was the second to last one I solved. The range of words threw me off; despite all referring to the same concept, they each carry a different nuance. It became increasingly evident as I continued that none of them matched others perfectly. Once I recognized that these were all terms of endearment, I was able to connect the dots.

MARBLES |
MIND |
SENSE |
WITS |
I initially believed these words would connect in a way that formed a familiar phrase. Although I misjudged that, I still came to the correct conclusion since I was on the right track. MARBLES might be the word that trips people up here, as it serves as a somewhat abstract metaphor for the human MIND. I think it’s metaphorical enough that most people would recognize it, but perhaps I’m just around a lot of folks who enjoy MARBLES!

GENIE |
TOOTHPASTE |
If you’re in search of compelling metaphors, this category has plenty to choose from. The lengthy title of this category seems to be a recurring trend lately. However, the category name does a great job at explaining the metaphors themselves, which I never thought I’d need. I personally favor “letting the GENIE out of the bottle,” but I’ve encountered all these metaphors in conversation at some point.
