The PlayStation 5’s prominent game, CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, is receiving a significant upgrade this week with the rollout of its PlayStation 5 Pro patch.
On the PS Blog, CD Projekt Red explained what players can look forward to in the free PS5 Pro update, which will be available starting April 8, 2026. This update harnesses some of the PS5 Pro’s most notable features, including 4K resolution, improved performance, advanced ray tracing, and more. The update heavily leverages PlayStation’s Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).
This enhancement leads to a substantial improvement in the game’s ray tracing capabilities, especially affecting the lighting effects in Night City. The neon-lit buildings and vehicles now feature more realistic illumination thanks to the upgraded technology. The update also introduces BVH8 (8-way Bounding Volume Hierarchy) support to optimize ray-traced lighting and shadows.
In terms of gameplay performance, the PS5 Pro version aims for 40 frames per second in the game’s “visual mode.” Meanwhile, on devices with variable refresh rates, the game can reach up to 90 frames per second while maintaining high graphical quality.
A list of upcoming titles that will incorporate support for PlayStation 5 Pro’s PSSR 2.0 includes:
- Silent Hill 2
- Silent Hill F
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard
- Control
- Alan Wake 2
- Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
- Nioh 3
- Rise of the Ronin
- Monster Hunter Wilds
- Dragon’s Dogma 2
- Crimson Desert
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- Cyberpunk 2077
The new PSSR 2.0 is a major development for the PS5 Pro. PlayStation mentioned that this iteration has been in development for some time and represents a different approach compared to previous versions. Resident Evil Requiem is the first game to utilize the updated PSSR, which maintains both high frame rates and image quality.
Players can toggle the enhanced PSSR on or off within the system settings, under the Screen and Video menu in “Video Output.”
