Although the PlayStation is best known for its blockbuster titles like The Last of Us and God of War, it also hosts a selection of unique indie games such as Baby Steps and Cairn. Included among these is an upcoming PS5 adventure game developed by a solo indie creator that shows great promise.
What Is Project Songbird?
Project Songbird is developed by FYRE Games, an indie studio based in Pittsburgh headed by solo developer Connor Rush, who previously worked on Summerland and We Never Left. Drawing inspiration from titles like Alan Wake, Silent Hill, and The Stanley Parable, this upcoming game offers a four to five-hour experience centered around a cinematic, first-person narrative adventure with horror elements. It’s set deep within the Appalachian forest, and below is a trailer and overview to give gamers a sense of its story and atmosphere:

“Set deep beneath the isolating canopy of the Appalachian forest, Project Songbird unfolds as a surreal and psychological tale that delves into the dark aspects of the creative process. Players assume the role of Dakota, a struggling musician suffering from writer’s block who retreats to a remote log cabin to record a new album. As they search among the pines for inspiration, darker forces lurking in the shadows reveal themselves — proving that not all inspiration is beneficial.”
The voice cast includes Valerie Rose Lohman (known for What Remains of Edith Finch and Wolfenstein: Youngblood), Jonah Scott (Dying Light 2: Stay Human and Date Everything), and Aleks Le (Persona 3: Reloaded, Marvel Rivals, Ghost of Yotei). The game will also feature a “beautifully dynamic and haunting” soundtrack created by Jacob Noska of Auric Echoes and Jonah Henthorne.
Project Songbird is scheduled to release on PS5 on March 26. For gamers who also have a gaming PC, a free demo will be available on Steam and itch.io.
Additionally, another horror-adjacent adventure game for PS5, Dark Auction, has just been released and is now available for purchase on the PlayStation Store.
