Once you’ve caught a Kubfu in The Indigo Disk DLC for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, you’re in a great position to evolve it into one of two powerful forms of Urshifu. The Fighting-type evolution is among the strongest Pokémon you could include in your roster. Sourced from the Isle of Armor expansion in Pokémon Sword & Shield, this formidable fighter requires specific items for evolution.
You can evolve your Kubfu into one of two varieties of Urshifu: Single Strike Style Urshifu or Rapid Strike Style Urshifu. To obtain the Single Strike variant, you need the Scroll of Darkness, while the Scroll of Waters facilitates the evolution into Rapid Strike Urshifu. Historically, these Scrolls were available at Battle Towers, but you can acquire them through different means in the Scarlet & Violet DLC.
To catch a Kubfu and initiate the evolution, you’ll need to complete 10 solo Blueberry quests in The Indigo Disk. Afterward, use a Kubfu Treat to attract the Pokémon to the Fury Falls area on the map.
Attend An Auction with Kubfu on Your Team
The Scroll of Darkness can be purchased at the auction market located in Porto Marinada within Area Two of the West Province in the Paldea region. If you’ve purchased The Indigo Disk DLC, this Scroll is sold at a specific auction where having Kubfu on your team increases your chances of encountering it. Items for sale at Porto Marinada are randomized, yet having Kubfu in your party significantly boosts your odds of finding the Scroll.
Make sure you have sufficient funds to buy the Scroll of Darkness, and then use it on Kubfu to evolve it into a Dark/Fighting-type Urshifu. This variant excels against the most formidable trainers you’ll face in the DLC.
Keep Trying to Auction for the Item You Want
The Scroll of Waters is also available at the Porto Marinada auction in the same manner as the Scroll of Darkness. Again, it’s advisable to have Kubfu in your active party to enhance the chances of either Scroll appearing. Evolving Kubfu with the Scroll of Waters results in Rapid Strike Style Urshifu, a Water/Fighting-type Legendary Pokémon capable of outmatching many foes.
It’s important to note that Kubfu cannot evolve if it’s holding an Everstone, even if you show it the Scrolls. Both forms of Urshifu harness their unique dual typings to deal increased damage with relevant moves. For instance, Rapid Strike Urshifu receives a Same Type Attack Bonus (S.T.A.B.) when using Fighting or Water-type attacks against other Pokémon.
Which Evolution Is Better?
When it comes to deciding which Urshifu evolution is superior, both forms possess unique strengths and weaknesses, making it a matter of personal choice. Single Strike Urshifu has fewer vulnerabilities with its Dark and Fighting-types, being weak only to Flying, Fairy, and other Fighting moves. On the other hand, Rapid Strike Urshifu faces more threats, including weaknesses to Grass, Electric, and Psychic-type attacks.
Both Urshifu types are known for their powerful Unseen Fist ability, which lets them hit through defensive moves like Protect or Detect, ensuring they can consistently deliver physical attacks.
In my opinion, Single Strike Urshifu is the preferable choice due to its ability to function purely as a high-attack Pokémon that can counter the top contenders from other trainers. While Rapid Strike Urshifu might have advantageous type match-ups, its broader vulnerabilities can make it less reliable. Overall, Single Strike Urshifu’s adaptability in battles makes it a valuable asset on any team.
