Starting a run in YapYap without understanding its wands and spells is like entering a wizard duel with just a stick. You might look impressive, but you won’t last long. That’s because each wand has its own unique strengths and quirks—just like you!
To succeed, you need to learn what each wand can do and which spells work best to overcome the game’s challenges. This guide explains every wand and its spells, giving you a clear plan for using your tools and making the most of your adventures.
How To Get And Use Wands
At the beginning of a run, you start with no gold. This limits you to using only the Wand of Winds, which is obtained by breaking a branch off a nearby tree in the main lobby and picking it up from the ground.
If you die, you lose your wand. You’ll have to go back to the Wand of Winds unless you have enough coins to buy a new one.
As you earn gold during a run, visit the merchant in the starting area. The merchant sells several different wands at various prices, along with other materials. You can’t preview a wand’s spells before buying, so it’s always a bit of a gamble.
Once you own a wand, you can see its available spells by holding down the right mouse button. To cast a spell, speak the spell’s word aloud into your microphone.

How To Find Hidden Spells
Some wands have secret spells that aren’t visible in the normal preview. To unlock these, you need to own the wand and return to the starting area. Inside the wizard tower, go upstairs and interact with the Grimoire while holding the wand. The secret spells will appear in the book, and you can use them for the rest of your run.
Occasionally, wands can appear in chests during gameplay, but this is rare. You can also trade items you find to the Sewer Goblin within a round for a random wand.
