Marvel Cosmic Invasion stands out from other beat ’em ups because it features a huge roster of 15 playable characters, each with their own unique abilities and movesets. While all heroes and villains are fairly balanced, some are clearly stronger than others. If you’re looking to form the best team in Cosmic Invasion, here are the top choices.
Overall Hero Tier List
Every character has their own set of powers, attributes (like flying, dodging, parrying, or grabbing enemies), and unlockable passive abilities at Level 5. This tier list evaluates heroes based on how well their powers and attributes work with their overall moveset, as well as the effectiveness of their normal attacks, heavy hits, signature moves, and special attacks against enemies.
Here’s a quick overview of where heroes rank on the overall tier list:
| Tier | Heroes |
|---|---|
| S | Silver Surfer, Rocket Raccoon, Phoenix |
| A | Captain America, Phyla-Vell, She-Hulk |
| B | Venom, Wolverine, Iron Man |
| C | Storm, Nova, Beta Ray Bill |
| D | Black Panther, Spider-Man, Cosmic Ghost Rider |
S-Tier Heroes
Silver Surfer
Silver Surfer is the last character you unlock, and he’s also one of the best. He can fly, parry attacks, shoot powerful cosmic projectiles, and deal significant damage even through basic hits. His special attack creates an area-of-effect explosion that can wipe out enemies, and his passive makes his parry deal cosmic damage. The only downside is that he becomes available very late in the campaign.
Rocket Raccoon
For players who want a powerful hero early on, Rocket Raccoon is perfect. Despite his speed and dodging being relatively weak, his gunfire is surprisingly strong. His heavy gatling gun and special attack can easily clear groups of enemies. His signature attack — throwing grenades with random elemental effects — can cause massive damage, including a screen-wipe nuke. With a passive chance to trigger a nuke grenade, Rocket ranks high.
Phoenix
Jean Grey, or Phoenix, is another hero unlocked relatively early. She can fly, parry, and shoot fiery projectiles with basic attacks. Her special attack can clear rooms if positioned properly. Her signature move, which allows her to grab enemies — especially useful around pits — makes her stand out. She’s a very versatile and powerful hero overall.
A-Tier Heroes
Captain America
Steve Rogers may seem simple, but he’s reliable. His parry is a major advantage, and his basic attacks and combos are strong for ground combat. His signature attack — throwing his shield — can hit enemies from afar without limit, making him a versatile character. Plus, a passive that boosts duo attack damage makes him quite effective.
Phyla-Vell
Unlocked midway through the campaign, Phyla-Vell has a wide array of abilities: parrying, dodging, flying, teleporting after a projectile attack, and delivering elemental effects. Her only flaw is her special attack often missing because she moves across the screen too much. Still, her overall versatility places her in A-Tier.
She-Hulk
As the game’s signature grappler, She-Hulk can grab enemies and perform powerful throws, including suplexes — which adds a lot of fun to gameplay. She also boasts damaging basic combos, a dash attack, and a shockwave special. Despite being slow and having a dull passive, she’s still among the top heroes.
B-Tier Heroes
Venom
Venom, unlocked later, is like a stronger Spider-Man — able to web-swing, pull enemies, and use area-of-effect specials. His attacks hit harder, especially his dash, and he has a helpful parry instead of a dodge. His biggest weakness is a poor passive and slow movement speed, but overall, he’s a top-tier web-slinger.
Wolverine
Wolverine is unique because he excels in multiple areas: he’s fast, deals heavy damage, and can latch onto and throw enemies using his signature move. His special attack hits multiple foes, and his passive allows him to recover health faster. His small size and speed make him a formidable and dynamic fighter.
Iron Man
Iron Man is a dependable hero, especially in the air. His projectiles are among the best, and his electro blast is a strong heavy attack. His ability to fly and a useful passive increase his strength, though he would be even better with a different dodge mechanic that fits his movement style better.
C-Tier Heroes
Storm
While Storm seems powerful—flying, having elemental effects, dodging, and firing projectiles—her signature attack, Arctic Wind, is more effective at pushing enemies than dealing damage, making her less impressive. A passive ability that’s too situational keeps her from rising higher.
Nova
As the main hero, Nova is very basic but balanced. He can fly, shoot projectiles, parry, and attack in an area. But he lacks standout features that differentiate him, and his weak projectiles place him firmly in the middle tier. He’s more of a jack-of-all-trades.
Beta Ray Bill
Big and mighty, Bill is more of a middle-ground hero. He has powerful basic attacks and can dodge, but lacks the ability to parry. His Stormbreaker Throw signature is one of the coolest and can deal significant damage if used correctly. He’s a bit of an odd choice because he doesn’t excel in any one area.
D-Tier Heroes
Black Panther
Despite his speed and some attack prowess, Black Panther isn’t very strong overall. His damage output feels lacking unless spammed with dash attacks, and his signature projectile and special attacks are underwhelming. His passive, which increases damage after being hit, saves him from the very bottom.
Spider-Man
Spider-Man’s web-shooters are weak, his attacks are slow, and he doesn’t stand out much compared to Venom. His signature web-attack can slow enemies, but overall, he’s outclassed in every aspect and ranks low on the list.
Cosmic Ghost Rider
Though the coolest and most unique in design, Ghost Rider is also one of the weakest. His base attacks and counters are solid, but his signature — pistols — do little damage and require a lot of setup. His motorcycle special often misses unless enemies are perfectly lined up, and his passive isn’t strong enough to lift him higher.
This list helps guide which heroes are best for forming strong teams and understanding how their unique powers and attributes can work together in Cosmic Invasion.
