As you progress through the MyCareer season and participate in events in PGA Tour 2K25, you’ll accumulate VC and skill points that you can use for upgrades. Your skills are organized into different categories, each targeting a specific aspect of the golf game. However, some skills are more beneficial to unlock early on than others.

The skills you’ll want to prioritize will also depend on the archetype you select for your player at the start of MyCareer, as well as the stats you’ve enhanced by spending VC. If you’ve already boosted certain statistics, you may not find certain skill enhancements necessary.

Top Skills to Unlock Early

Power Drive

Power Drive is straightforward—it increases the distance of your driver shots before they hit the ground. However, you’ll need to be more accurate with your swing to make the most of this skill.

Bump and Run

Bump and Run is ideal for situations when you’re just short of the green. This technique allows the ball to bounce early, rolling on and preventing you from overshooting.

Chip

This skill enhances your chip shot accuracy. With it, you’ll make fewer errors around the green.

Splash

You’ll have access to Splash shots right from the start of your MyCareer adventure, and this skill improves their effectiveness. You’ll use Splash shots when hitting from bunkers near the green, allowing the ball to bounce quickly and reducing potential issues.

Choked Tee Shot

The Choked Tee Shot acts similarly to top spin drives, but it doesn’t travel quite as far. This shot style results in an earlier bounce and more roll. It’s especially handy on short par fours or lengthy par threes where you need to hit the green without overshooting.

Tee Shot Contact Proficiency

Lastly, the Tee Shot Contact Proficiency skill eases the process of hitting your drives straight. It enhances the final contact point of your drives, making it more forgiving. Given its importance in the game, you’ll want to unlock it quickly.
