Nilan is one of the first allies you’ll recruit in GreedFall: The Dying World and is probably the most consistently helpful throughout the game. Two of his three skill trees focus on support, giving him access to powerful healing abilities, party boosts, and ways to manage status effects. His third tree is dedicated to his bow skills for when healing isn’t needed.
While he won’t beat your main damage dealers in raw power, that’s not his role. Nilan is here to keep your team alive, and when built right, he does this very effectively. Below, we’ll look at the best skills and attributes to maximize his potential.
Best Skills For Nilan
Nilan has three skill trees, with two centered on support. He’s an excellent choice for healing, especially in tough fights.
Paths of Charity
In this path, focus on enhancing buff effects. Prioritize unlocking Words of Support and Spiritual Stamina in the first tier. Move to Words of Retaliation and Power Transmission in the next tier, and aim for Avatar of Life once you’re high enough level. For Posture Improvements, it’s best to boost Healing Skill recovery time, making his healing faster — this is vital.
You don’t really need First Aid on Nilan. Since he’s a ranged character, requiring close-up healing makes it less useful and could even be a downside when relying on AI. The ability’s benefits don’t justify sacrificing skill points, so it’s better to save them for other tree options.
Bows
This tree is less critical but still useful. Completing the first tier gives Nilan abilities for non-healing moments, including debuffs like scourges, making him more versatile.
If choosing between the second-tier skills, Disabling Shot is a smart pick because Immobilisation is very useful on ranged characters like Nilan. Predator’s Instinct works well with an upgraded Coated Arrow.
In terms of weapon skills, reducing Action Point costs helps Nilan heal more often. Upgrading Projection makes it easier to hit marked targets. Late-game, Rain of Arrows can be effective but costs four Action Points, which might be risky if you need healing in a pinch or if you’re letting the AI handle combat.
Nilan’s Path
All skills in this area are valuable, particularly Initiate’s Healing and Healing Wave, which are core healing skills. Keep these as priorities, followed by Stone Skin and Natural Harmony when available.
Best Attributes For Nilan
As a ranged healer who uses a bow, the most important stat for Nilan is Perception, which boosts his damage output. When you can no longer improve Perception, focus on balancing Endurance and Focus, placing more emphasis on Focus. Since he’s a ranged combatant, he should take less damage overall, and increasing Focus enables him to use his skills more often.
Once Perception and Focus are maximized, and Endurance is healthy, consider investing in Agility for better Dodge chances and gaining the Intangibility trait, making him even more elusive in fights.
