Just moments after the latest State of Play, Warriors: Abyss became available on all major gaming platforms. This roguelike adventure offers a highly immersive experience that seamlessly blends elements of Hades and Vampire Survivors, creating an exhilarating and well-balanced challenge.
At first glance, Warriors: Abyss may seem overwhelming due to its many systems. But once you get the hang of it, the game provides a surge of excitement, especially when you discover your favorite Hero. Like many games in the genre, you will face defeat frequently, but with some strategic thinking and experience, you can reduce the impact of those unsuccessful attempts!
Experiment With Different Heroes
As anticipated, you can choose from a wide array of Heroes from various Dynasties, each providing distinct playstyles that help you find the perfect match for your gameplay. Even after you settle on a ‘main’ Hero, we encourage you to explore other characters as you might discover even more that suit your preferences.
Moreover, some Heroes yield more Karma Embers when selected, prompting you to expand your strategies and explore different playstyles. Warriors: Abyss is packed with depth, so trying out multiple characters will deepen your understanding of its mechanics!
Building Your Strategy is Key
As a roguelike, Warriors: Abyss emphasizes the importance of builds. Your strategy will evolve as you acquire Emblems and Allied Heroes, which allow you to focus on specific stats and even add elemental damage to your attacks.
However, expect to face challenges with the game’s random elements since you won’t always get the build you’re aiming for. You may need to adapt based on the options available to you to achieve victory. For instance, if you seek a build that prioritizes speed and slaying, you might not encounter the necessary Emblems or Allied Heroes, requiring you to shift your focus to alternatives like Flame or Wind.
We recommend sticking to three or four Emblems during a run; trying to take on more can dilute your defenses and overall effectiveness. Accumulating multiple Emblems of the same type will gradually enhance their effects and unlock additional capabilities, so stay focused on your chosen build!
Skill and Speed Emblems Are Highly Effective
Among various Emblems, the Skill and Speed Emblems stand out as the most valuable and should be prioritized in nearly every run unless you’re adopting a tank-oriented approach. Even then, it’s wise to upgrade these stats to enhance your gameplay.
While other Emblems can also be beneficial, we found that boosting Skill and Speed provides significant advantages, enabling you to unleash your character’s full potential while being agile enough to dodge attacks!
Advantages of the Skill Emblem
The Skill Emblem is essential because it unlocks additional Attack Strings and enhances Summoning Skills for your Hero. If you neglect to upgrade this stat, you’ll limit yourself to using only four Allied Heroes and four Attack Strings in combat, restricting your overall capabilities.
Your Formation can support up to six Allied Heroes, meaning you’ll miss out on utilizing two Summoning Skills if you don’t enhance your Skill Stat. Furthermore, the fifth and sixth Attack Strings are likely your Hero’s most potent moves, making it essential to unlock them!
Advantages of the Speed Emblem
The Speed Emblem is crucial for almost all Heroes, especially those that are highly aggressive and thrive in close combat situations. Even for tanky or ranged Heroes, upgrading this stat still offers considerable benefits.
Boosting your Speed Stat allows you to become invincible while Evading, ultimately unlocking the option to dodge three times in rapid succession. This will enable you to quickly escape dangerous situations. Additionally, you can enhance your Attack and Defense after Evading, making your actions more powerful!
Unlocking Heroes Makes Future Runs Simpler
Heroes are fundamental in Warriors: Abyss, with a whopping 100 available to unlock! Each Hero serves as either your Primary Hero or an Allied Hero, making it imperative to unlock them using Karma Embers via the Hall of Bonded Souls in the Main Menu.
By forming bonds with these Heroes, you will permanently bolster the Attack, Defense, or Health of all unlocked Heroes, making future attempts easier. You can find out which stat will be influenced by selecting a Hero in the Hall of Bonded Souls menu and checking the info above the ‘Form Bond’ button.
In this section, labeled ‘Unlock Effect’, an icon will reveal which Stat is impacted, with a associated number reflecting the amount. When you establish a Bond with a Hero, the Unlock Effect applies across all your Heroes immediately. As you progress, you’ll unlock even more Heroes, gradually increasing your strength with each run, so stay persistent!
Utilize Hero Synergies for Major Advantages
Also, by unlocking Heroes, your Allied Heroes can receive upgrades once certain conditions are met. Some may require configurations like having five Lightning Emblems, while others may necessitate a specific Allied Hero in your Formation. Occasionally, you might need to meet both criteria.
This directly connects to your build strategy, as being aware of Hero Synergies in the early stages of your run helps you concentrate on specific Emblems that optimize the performance of both you and your Allied Heroes.
Allied Hero Upgrades and Strategic Approaches
For instance, Kai requires Allied Hero Ujiyasu Hojo and ten Lightning Emblems to enhance her Tornado Blade Summoning Skill. Furthermore, collecting five Strength Emblems unlocks her Flower of War Unique Tactic, which grants a 30% Attack buff to all Heroes bearing the Flower of War Emblem.
Don’t overlook the power of these Hero Synergies, as they can genuinely shift the tide of battle in your favor. You can examine all synergies by selecting a character in the Hall of Bonded Souls and checking the Summons tab, where you’ll see their potential contributions and learn how to leverage their Unique Tactics!
Understanding Health Recovery During Runs
You will soon discover that you don’t have any potions or healing items as you venture through the relentless challenges while battling hordes of monsters. While you can’t heal freely, you will still have means to recover health during your gameplay.
Leveling up provides a small health boost, making it the primary method for regaining health in Warriors: Abyss. Besides that, you’ll need to seek out other opportunities to avoid succumbing to defeat, which may be scarce.
Juicy Meat
Juicy Meat can be bought at the King’s Cauldron for 1,000 Crystal Sapling Petals or found in Chests after completing Missions. This item provides a substantial health restore, making it one of the most effective ways to recover health during your encounters.
After clearing a Phase, if you notice a Cauldron Icon on a Portal, follow it to the King’s Cauldron, where Juicy Meat is always available for purchase. However, you are limited to buying only one piece at a time, preventing you from stacking them for a complete health replenishment.
When it comes to Missions, look for a Treasure Chest icon on a Portal. After completing the Phase, a Mission will be presented to you; it could be to defeat a specific enemy or eliminate a set number of monsters within a time limit. Completing the Mission rewards you with a Chest that may contain Juicy Meat or other valuable items!
Peach Trees
Another option for restoring HP is to find Peach Trees, which may appear sporadically during your runs. After completing a Phase, it’s possible that a Portal will appear, marked with a Peach icon. Entering this Portal will lead you to a Peach Tree, allowing you to recover some HP while also increasing your Max Health for the duration of the run.
Additionally, defeated enemies may drop Peaches, which can provide you with health in the midst of combat. However, these drops are rare, so don’t count on finding them often unless you have perks that heighten drop rates!
Random Events
The last method to recover health in Warriors: Abyss involves Random Events that can occur upon entering a portal. You may be faced with several choices, each providing different benefits or drawbacks. Often, the options will involve sacrificing some Max Health for a powerful buff, but if you get lucky, you may find beneficial options.
You could come across a Hot Spring, granting you a complete health restoration at the cost of not being able to use Assemble for one phase — a trade worth considering if you need healing. Just remember that options for recovery are limited, so don’t expect them to be readily available!
Getting to Know the Assemble System
In Warriors: Abyss, Assemble acts as your ultimate attack, enabling you to unleash a powerful strike by summoning your Allied Heroes to execute a devastating blow against your foes.
While Assemble serves as a strong standalone ability, keep in mind that having all six spots in your Formation filled will amplify its damage output when you activate Summoning Skills during the assault. Although you won’t summon a new Allied Hero since they’re already on the battlefield, you’ll inflict massive damage nonetheless.
If you’re seeking to maximize your damage potential, executing your Musou Attack while Assemble is active will unleash a devastating series of strikes from you and your Allied Heroes, obliterating all opponents in your path. To achieve peak effectiveness, ensure you have all six Allies active, which makes leveling up your Skill Stat crucial each run!
Be Ready for Frequent Defeats
Prepare yourself — you will experience plenty of defeats. It’s simply part of the roguelike experience. Don’t get discouraged if a run doesn’t go your way, as you may have a much better performance in the next. Mastering certain characters takes time, so approach each attempt as a valuable learning opportunity, even when the game’s RNG seems unfavorable.
With 100 Heroes at your command, it’s only natural that you may struggle to grasp some of their mechanics or find effective builds early on. However, persistence will pay off, and you’ll grow significantly stronger over time, so don’t let setbacks deter you initially. As is the case with many roguelikes, you may find yourself saying “just one more run” before realizing hours have flown by!
