Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a game that revolves around daily routines and everyday life on the island. Players get to experience island living firsthand by logging in each day as real time passes. The game offers a lot of freedom, letting players customize their island life as they wish, which can make it easy to overlook some important tasks needed to keep the island in good shape.

As days go by, the island will change based on how much players interact with it. These changes can affect how others rate the island. Weeds will grow, tree branches may fall, and fossils will appear. If players don’t tend to their island daily, these issues can cause the island’s rating to drop. Also, if players don’t talk to their villagers regularly, some villagers might decide to leave the island.

### Complete Resort DIY Requests for Hotel Tickets
With the update 3.0, there’s now a request board at the resort hotel where players can submit DIY projects to be made and handed over to Kapp’n for sale on the island. Completing these DIY projects earns you Hotel Tickets, which are needed to buy new item sets from Grams. If you’re trying to collect all the new items, this can get pretty costly, especially once Grams’ special catalog is unlocked with your Nintendo console.

### Check Grams’ Stock in the Hotel
Even if you don’t have many Hotel Tickets, it’s always helpful to see what Grams has for sale near her at the hotel. While you can order items from her catalog, the physical items she sets up are available for immediate purchase and are usually much cheaper than ordering through the catalog.

### Check the Mailbox Each Day
When you log into Animal Crossing each day, the first thing you’ll notice is your mailbox. If there are any unopened letters or packages, the mailbox flag will go up and flash, and a chime will play to get your attention. You’ll find deliveries from Nook Shopping or Redd’s Treasure Trawler, but friends and villagers can also send you letters and gifts. The mailbox can hold up to 300 letters, so it’s a good habit to check it daily and claim any items inside.

### Talk to Your Neighbors
Since Animal Crossing is a social game, interacting with villagers is important. Make sure to say hello to all your neighbors every day. Building friendship involves chatting and giving gifts, but forgetting to do so might cause villagers to move away from your island.

### Find Visiting Vendors and Special Characters
In addition to villagers, you’ll meet special characters like Flick, CJ, Wisp, Gulliver, and others, who visit your island randomly. They often reward players with unique items for completing tasks. Usually, one special character will appear each day. Once you find one, you’re likely good for the day. With the latest update, you might also see Resetti wandering around, waiting to chat if you haven’t used the reset service recently.

### Check the Nook Stop Terminal Daily
Every day, visit the Nook Stop terminal at Resident Services. Simply visiting grants bonus Nook Miles, with the amount increasing each consecutive day—starting at 50 miles and reaching up to 300. New items are also available daily in the Nook Shopping and Nook Miles catalogs, including new DIY recipes and songs from K.K. Slider to collect.

### Earn Bells with the Money Tree and Rock
Earning Bells is a key part of the game. You can make around 40,000 Bells daily by completing two simple tasks. First, dig up a bag of 1,000 Bells (it’s marked by a glowing golden spot). Planting either 1,000 or 10,000 Bells in this spot will grow a Money Tree that gives back triple the amount once it matures.

Second, one of the six rocks on your island will be the “Money Rock” each day. Hitting it up to eight times can earn you up to 16,000 Bells. You just need to be quick to collect all the Bells before they disappear.

### Gather Resources
To craft new items and complete DIY projects, you’ll need resources from your island. Hitting the six rocks will give you stones, clay, and iron. Chopping trees provides wood, hardwood, and softwood. It’s a good idea to gather some of each daily so you don’t run out. Just remember that tools have durability, so use them wisely.

### Dig for Fossils Daily
Every day, new fossils will appear on your island. These ancient relics can be dug up from star-shaped holes on the ground. Besides using them for DIY projects, you can take fossils to the Museum for evaluation by Blathers. Donating fossils helps complete the museum, but you can also sell them to Timmy and Tommy at Nook’s Cranny for a good profit. Collecting and selling fossils is a great way to make money while keeping your island looking tidy.

### Water Flowers and Crops
If you enjoy gardening, you can grow beautiful flowers and farms. Flowers can be bred to create hybrid colors and bloom when watered regularly, though they don’t need daily watering to survive. Crops, like wheat and vegetables, don’t have hybrids but will produce more if you water them daily—up to three crops per plant. Watering crops daily helps improve your resources, especially if you like to cook often. Don’t worry about watering on rainy or snowy days—the weather does that for you.

By following these daily routines, you will keep your island thriving and make the most of everything Animal Crossing: New Horizons has to offer.
