We haven’t heard much about The Elder Scrolls 6 since its brief CGI trailer in 2018, but development is picking up, and rumors are starting to circulate.

Xbox insider Jez Corden mentioned on the XB2 podcast that the game is “quite playable” now, suggesting it may be further along than we thought.

“If the core of Elder Scrolls 6 is done, or close to being done—” Corden started. “Well, I don’t think that’s true. That’s not gonna be true for a while,” Rand al Thor interrupted. “I don’t know, man, I don’t know,” Corden replied. “Has Elder Scrolls 6 even hit full production yet?” Rand al Thor asked. “I don’t know—I heard it’s quite playable,” Corden said.

As Rand al Thor argued, “quite playable” could mean various things. Bethesda might have a basic combat system or some dungeons mapped out, but that doesn’t mean everything is ready. Corden hinted it could be more advanced than we thought, but he used speculative language, so it’s best to stay cautious.

Corden said his belief that The Elder Scrolls 6 would appear at a recent showcase was an “educated guess”.

He also claimed in the same podcast that Fallout 5 had been “fully greenlit” but may not be developed by the main Bethesda team. Todd Howard reiterated last year that Fallout 5 is still expected to release after The Elder Scrolls 6. It could make sense for another studio to handle it if Microsoft wants to launch a sequel soon, especially considering the recent TV show’s popularity. However, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier pointed out that “Xbox didn’t lay off thousands of people to move those resources to new projects,” raising some doubt about Corden’s comments.

Corden noted that we should take his statements with caution, as he didn’t have enough details for a complete picture. He mentioned that he has “no idea how far along” development is and that getting reliable information from Bethesda can be tricky. Still, it’s the most we’ve heard about TES6 in quite a while.
