The early access release date for Skate has finally been announced, giving skateboarding fans the chance to grab their boards and ride through San Vansterdam after years of anticipation. While it’s not officially called Skate 4, the game still uses the familiar Flick-It system to perform daring tricks and complete challenges. EA describes this as the “next evolution of the Skate series.” Significant changes include making the game free-to-play, so here’s everything you need to know about the release date and what you can expect at launch.
The game releases for early access on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Players on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and Epic Games will be able to join in. The launch time is set for 5 p.m. UTC, which means:
– West Coast US: September 16 at 10 a.m. PDT
– East Coast US: September 16 at 1 p.m. EDT
– UK: September 16 at 6 p.m. BST
– Central Europe: September 16 at 7 p.m. CEST
Some players who participated in previous tests or signed up for Skate Insiders may have had early access even earlier, but the sign-up deadline was June 27, so most will be waiting just a little longer.
Yes, Skate early access is completely free. Once it’s live, you can download it from your preferred digital store without paying anything. While the game is free to keep playing, there are several special Founders Packs available for purchase if you want to support development and unlock bonus items. Additionally, there will be optional microtransactions for cosmetic gear to customize your skater and skateboard.
As it’s still in early development, the current version isn’t the final product, but it offers plenty to enjoy. You’ll be able to explore the large San Vansterdam map with four different neighborhoods, play multiplayer with cross-platform and cross-progression features, and try out new mechanics like climbing, scaling, and jumping. There’s more to come, and you can check out the future plans on the Skate early access roadmap.
