The quest “Echoes of the Past” in Dragon Age: The Veilguard includes some challenging puzzles that can be tricky for players. While many puzzles are straightforward and quick, some can prove to be more complex because of hidden items. The crystals needed to unlock the doors are concealed throughout the area, which can be frustrating when trying to progress. However, once you know their locations, finding them becomes much easier.
When you locate all the crystals and place them in their designated spots, you’ll move on to the next stage of the quest. The puzzles come one after another at a fast pace, but each one is located in a different area. There are three puzzles in total, each increasingly difficult. This quest resembles a scavenger hunt, similar to the hunt for wolf statuettes in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
How to Locate the First Set of Crystals
How to Solve the Easiest Puzzle
For the initial puzzle in “Echoes of the Past,” you’ll need two crystals. This puzzle is designed to introduce you to the basic mechanics of solving puzzles in the game. Bellara, a character you can romance in DA: The Veilguard, will be at the door attempting to open it, leaving you to find the two nearby crystals. Fortunately, they are located close to each other, making this part of the quest fairly simple.
Start by heading to the far side of the room, towards the south; you’ll spot the second crystal next to a table. Collect it and place it in the designated spot beside Bellara. Then, head back to where she is positioned and look at the portal on the wall opposite her. It will reveal a Halla statue beyond a barrier. To the left of that barrier, you’ll find a hidden crystal. Retrieve that crystal and take it to the open spot to unlock the doors leading to the next area.
How to Locate the Second Set of Crystals
How to Solve the Medium Difficulty Puzzle
The second puzzle in “Echoes of the Past” requires you to find three crystals. This task is slightly more difficult, as the crystals aren’t immediately visible; they’re tucked away in the area and can be a bit challenging to track down. However, they are still relatively close to the door. Once you find any of them, return to Bellara to place them in their respective spots.
To begin your search for the first crystal, go to the ladder located next to the next passageway. Climb to the top and follow the wooden path to find the crystal. Once you find it, head back to Bellara and place it in any available crystal spot. The second crystal can be found in the western corner among some boxes and shrubbery. Destroy the boxes to reveal the hidden crystal.
After placing the second crystal with Bellara, it’s time to search for the final one. This crystal is on the west side of the room, next to a golden door. Navigate up what appears to be a broken ledge-turned-staircase to find this crystal, which will be near some larger, inactive crystals. Grab it and return to Bellara to complete this stage of the quest.
How to Locate the Third Set of Crystals
How to Solve the Hardest Puzzle
The last puzzle in “Echoes of the Past” also requires two crystals, but they won’t be as straightforward as the previous ones. Finding them necessitates some thought and strategy, although you won’t need any special abilities. Knowing where to look and what actions to take will suffice. To find the first crystal, look to the left of where Bellara is standing. You’ll see one crystal across a chasm. Run along the railing until you spot a wooden pole. Interact with it to kick it and create a bridge. Next, turn right and climb the nearby ladder. At the top, you’ll discover the first crystal you need. Jump down, but don’t place it beside Bellara just yet.
While you usually place the crystals in their respective spots upon finding them, this particular crystal will help you locate the other one.
Now, take the first crystal back to the spot you initially saw it and place it in its designated area. Doing this will generate a bridge that allows you to access the next crystal. Collect this new crystal and place it with Bellara, then return to retrieve the first crystal and place it beside her as well.
After completing these steps, Bellara will leave the area and head back outside. She’ll share her thoughts about her brother in a touching scene, concluding the puzzle-solving experience in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
