Doom is a key part of video game history. It continues to thrive, not just through new games, the latest being just a couple of months old, but because many still enjoy the original after all these years. In 2025, the classic Doom will be released again for the Super Nintendo.
Dedicated Doom fans have shown over the years that this iconic game can run on nearly anything, from a simple calculator to a fridge. However, playing the game on its original console remains a unique experience. If you own an SNES, you’ll soon be able to purchase a special edition of Doom and use a new themed controller.
Doom is Back on Super Nintendo, and It’s Better Than Ever
This new release comes from Limited Run Games, which has teamed up with Randy Linden, the person who ported Doom to SNES in the 1990s. You can buy the standard edition for $99.99 or a collector’s edition for $174.99. Both editions come with a Doom SNES cartridge, an instruction booklet, and a poster.
The collector’s edition features a unique cartridge, designed to look like it has been in battle, and comes in a shiny box. Only 666 copies will be made, making it likely to sell out quickly, which affects the price.
Neither edition includes the matching SNES controller. You can get that separately for $34.99. The controller looks like it was made from the same armor as the Doom Slayer in the game and has two rumble motors. The original SNES controllers didn’t feature rumble, so using this new controller will give you a fresh experience of Doom on SNES.

This new version adds more than just rumble. It includes 14 new levels that weren’t part of the original SNES release, plus features like circle strafing and respawning enemies in Nightmare difficulty.
Pre-orders for both Doom editions and the controller start at 10 am EST on Friday, July 11, 2025. You’ll have until August 10, 2025, to order, but expect the collector’s edition to sell out quickly. The wait for shipping will be quite long; both Doom editions and the controller are not scheduled to ship until February 2026.
