Himeji Castle stands as a remarkable symbol in Japan, and its sheer size makes it one of the more challenging locations to navigate in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. While you can easily dart across rooftops as Naoe to sidestep confrontations, locating all five samurai daisho housed within the castle can prove quite tricky. A stealthy approach with Naoe can expedite the search far better than engaging in a large-scale brawl as Yasuke, but both strategies can yield results.
Successfully traversing Himeji Castle rewards you with legendary armor from Assassin’s Creed Shadows and generous experience points. There’s also a main story mission that requires a more methodical approach to infiltrating the castle, so consider first taking on that mission to familiarize yourself with the area before attempting a full exploration.
Location of Himeji Castle
Himeji Castle is situated in the Harima region, specifically in the southwest corner of the Assassin’s Creed Shadows map, not far from the southern coast. It’s relatively close to the starting area of Izumi Settsu, but it’s advisable to wait until Naoe and Yasuke are nearing level 30 before venturing into this region. When you’re ready, move west from known locations such as Amagasaki and Takatsuki until you reach Himeji Castle.
Locations of All Samurai Daisho in Himeji Castle
Perimeter Locations
As you approach Himeji Castle from the south, you’ll notice a couple of convenient routes to scale the walls to the left of the main entrance. Climbing here allows you to access the western wing of the castle, where the first samurai daisho can be found in a courtyard surrounded by explosive barrels. Take advantage of these explosives to make the takedown easier.
Continuing along the outer wall, head toward the northeast corner of the castle where the second samurai daisho stands amidst colorful banners. With the right equipment, you can easily execute a stealthy assassination.
Next, navigate to the southeastern end. The third samurai daisho is near a building to the west of a pond in that area. If you find it needs more than one hit to take him down, you can disengage and return safely.
Once the perimeter is cleared, proceed north to discover the fourth samurai daisho positioned on a red wooden bridge. This foe is tougher, so be well-prepared with gear geared toward assassination. If your initial attack fails, you can still position yourself safely to finish the fight.
The fifth samurai daisho is near the top of the central tenshu tower, where the viewpoint is located. Although it might be hard to spot him initially, utilizing the rooftops will guide you there. Climb the exterior and drop through a hatch in the roof. Once you descend a level, you will find this daisho oblivious, making for another straightforward takedown.
Legendary Chest Location in Himeji Castle
Inside the Tenshu
The legendary chest within Himeji Castle can be found a few levels down from where you find the last daisho. You’ll encounter two guards in the room with the chest, so the quickest way to get to it is by drop assassinating one of the guards from above. Inside the chest, you can find:
- Defense Master Clothing (Legendary Armor)
- 3,000 XP
- Health After Parry Engraving
This armor rewards Yasuke by restoring 10% of his health every time he executes a successful parry. If you prefer timing-based play, this could be a great fit, although it might not suit you if dodging is more your style.
Other Rewards in Himeji Castle
Easy to Find: Kura Key
While it’s possible to navigate through all of Himeji Castle without much additional loot, taking some detours can lead you to various chests and resources. One medium chest can be found on the southern side of the castle inside a building just after entering. You can also locate another chest on the eastern wall while looping back around.
For those interested in other minor loot, collecting additional chests may require venturing down from the walls into riskier areas. To access the storage sheds, the kura key can be found in a guarded corner right next to the entrance of the central tenshu. This key also opens double doors in the basement of the tenshu, which reveals a treasure trove of resources and another chest, giving you plenty to gather before leaving Himeji Castle and progressing through Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
