Exploring Takeda Castle in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Takeda Castle is a sprawling fortress located in the Tamba region of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Despite its size and challenging level in the later stages of the game, you can infiltrate it successfully with the right tactics. Whether you encounter the castle during free exploration or as part of Yasuke’s “End of the Line” quest, you’ll need to engage with it to complete Yasuke’s storyline. Additionally, retrieving all five samurai daisho’s scattered around the castle and collecting all available loot is an adventure worth pursuing.

Eliminating each daisho at Takeda Castle will unlock a Legendary Chest, which contains the Hidden Servant Hat. Naoe is the ideal character for a stealthy approach through the castle, but you can easily complete the mission using Yasuke, avoiding rooftops or stealth techniques if you prefer.

Locating Takeda Castle

Finding Takeda Castle in the Tamba Region

Takeda Castle is situated on the far left side of the map, right in the central part of the Tamba region, marked by a prominent castle icon once the area is revealed. If you haven’t explored Tamba yet, it may feel remote from your previous locations, but you can reach it easily via the main road approaching from the north, south, or east. The road will lead you uphill to the castle, where you’ll encounter guards.

Samurai Daisho Locations in Takeda Castle

Starting from the Castle’s Southern End

Upon reaching the main entrance of Takeda Castle, take a left and use the overhanging tree to get to the southern courtyard rather than engaging in direct combat. Start with a drop assassination, quietly making your way through the area and heading upward to find the first samurai daisho located in the upper section of the castle’s southern wing. Disable the alarm bell before dealing with the guards and eliminating the daisho.

Next, climb toward the center of the castle to find the second daisho in the central courtyard, marked on the map with the castle icon. This enemy could be tricky to eliminate in one move, especially if you’re playing two levels below the suggested level of 42. Clear the nearby guards and buildings before attempting to take him down.

The third daisho sits directly northwest of this courtyard. Access him by climbing the wall and then performing a drop assassination from above. He may require extra effort, but there should only be a single guard nearby, minimizing the risk of alerting the others.

Moving Through the Rooftops for the Fourth Daisho

Head northeast via the rooftops to locate the fourth samurai daisho who can be seen in an open area. Be cautious, as an alarm bell is positioned nearby. If timed correctly regarding the guard’s movements, you should be able to execute a stealthy assassination. However, if you do trigger an alert, worry not—there are rations nearby to help you recover.

Tip: If you find yourself in a tough spot, you can drop down outside the walls to evade conflict and restore your health.

The fifth and final samurai daisho awaits in the northern courtyard of Takeda Castle. Approach him from a higher vantage point. For a safer option, first eliminate the guards to the west of him. You can cause a distraction with nearby barrels, allowing you to close in for a final assassination when the area is clear.

Finding the Legendary Chest in Takeda Castle

Check the Tenshu After You Finish

The Legendary Chest is located in the central tenshu of the castle. After you’ve dealt with the fifth daisho, make your way back toward the tallest tower. You can enter from the exterior to avoid conflict by going in through the top level, but you might find additional chests by exploring the rest of the building. The Legendary Chest contains:

  • Hidden Servant Hat
  • 3,000 XP
  • Double Adrenaline on Assassination Engraving

The Hidden Servant Hat and its related engraving significantly boost Naoe’s adrenaline post-assassination, enhancing her skill use. While this isn’t as beneficial as certain perks that help deplete the enemy’s health in stealth mode, it remains valuable when you prefer stealth as a combat strategy.

Other Rewards in Takeda Castle

Chests and Kura Sheds

You can find many chests throughout Takeda Castle, especially along your path to the daishos. The first is located openly in the southwest courtyard. Heading toward the castle’s center, look for a small building containing a kura key and a nearby shed—feel free to engage with it or skip it as desired.

If you’re diligent about clearing the main area, you’ll discover several mid-sized chests without issue. One lies in the building west of the first daisho, and there’s another in a guardhouse as you proceed northeast toward the tenshu. The large building at the northwest side of the second daisho’s courtyard also contains a chest.

The building to the west of the fifth daisho holds another kura key for the adjacent shed, which includes a chest and some resources. After assassinating the daisho, you can grab another chest out in the open. By the time you finish with the tenshu, you’ll have successfully cleared Takeda Castle in Assassin’s Creed Shadows and collected everything worthwhile inside.
