Since the release of the Shining Revelry expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, powerful new cards have been making waves in competitive play. Among them, Beedrill ex and Meowscarada stand out, offering unique roles in an aggressive Grass-type deck. While this deck may not be as fast as some other offensive builds, its ability to deliver tremendous damage often gives you the advantage in prolonged matchups.
When entering ranked play or tournament events, it’s wise to switch between various deck strategies, particularly when the competition is stiff and rewards favor consistent victories. This approach not only keeps the gameplay interesting, but it can also reveal the strategy that resonates with your play style. Since I integrated the Beedrill ex and Meowscarada into my lineup, I haven’t turned back. The deck’s straightforward mechanics and reliability have outclassed my past favorites, like Celebi ex and Mewtwo ex.
Why Beedrill Ex Needs More Recognition
Crushing Spear Delivers Big Damage & Disrupts Opponents
Currently, Beedrill ex ranks among the top cards in the game. Unfortunately, it hasn’t received the same hype as other popular meta ex cards like Celebi ex. This is likely due to its only limitation: it’s a Stage 2 card, which requires evolving twice, making it slower to field. Still, one major reason to consider it is its impressive 170 HP, making it hard to take down.
The highlight of Beedrill ex is its attack, Crushing Spear. This powerful move deals 80 damage for just two Grass-type energy, allowing for a fast charge. Additionally, the attack discards a random energy from your opponent’s Active Pokémon. This tactic has often thwarted my opponents, preventing them from knocking out Beedrill ex by removing an energy they needed for a crucial attack. The subsequent 80 damage has been enough to secure victory in many matches.
Essential Cards for This Deck
Meowscarada & Erika Are Vital for This Deck
Meowscarada plays a nearly as important role as Beedrill ex in this setup. This Grass-type card has the ability to counter many common meta strategies, making it an underrated choice that all players should consider. Its attack, Fighting Claws, inflicts 60 damage for just two Grass-type energies; however, against an ex card, it deals an extra 70 damage, bringing the total to 130. This significant output has been game-changing during ranked battles for me.

This deck utilizes the Genetic Apex Weedle instead of the Shining Revelry version for better damage output—20 damage with its Sting attack.
Erika, the supporter card, is also key for maintaining this deck’s momentum. Erika heals 50 damage from one of your Grass-type Pokémon. By starting with low-HP Basic cards like Weedle or Sprigatito in the Active Spot, they often take damage quickly. Keeping them alive into the later stages is crucial for evolving them. I’ve often found Erika’s healing ability has saved my Weedle and Sprigatito from being easily taken out, especially since this deck doesn’t employ any potions.
Optimal Strategy for This Deck
This Deck Is Slow But Highly Effective
To kick off a Pokémon TCG Pocket battle successfully, you should place Sprigatito in the Active Spot. It’s also essential to use the Giant Cape supporter card on Sprigatito to boost its HP from 60 to 80. This increase significantly enhances your chances of evolving it into Meowscarada later on. Additionally, put a Weedle on the bench to set up the Beedrill ex evolution line. Spend your first energy on Sprigatito and use the Cry for Help move to draw the cards you need.
The Giant Cape tool card can help protect Weedle and Sprigatito during the early rounds by boosting their HP by 20.
Now it’s time to evolve your initial Basic cards into their Stage 1 forms. You can employ Professor’s Research to accelerate this process and pull in the necessary cards. Erika may become useful now to prevent any cards from being knocked out. You can also use Floragato’s attack, Slash, to inflict 40 damage. Eventually, you’ll be ready to evolve both Kakuna and Floragato into their Stage 2 forms, Beedrill ex and Meowscarada.
In closing, you can leverage either Meowscarada’s Fighting Claws or Beedrill ex’s Crushing Spear to deliver enough damage to take out your opponent’s Active Pokémon. This approach will lead to your victory in a Pokémon TCG Pocket battle.
