At the start of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Naoe’s father instructs her to locate a specific Kofun to retrieve a key item. While the Kofun you initially access is straightforward—you can find the item almost immediately—other Kofuns scattered throughout the game present a greater challenge.
The map is dotted with various Kofuns that not only grant valuable EXP and Knowledge Points but also allow you to collect legendary equipment for your characters. However, navigating these sites can be tough.
Finding All Kofuns
Throughout the expansive world of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you’ll discover ten Kofuns in the following locations:
# | Province | Name | Location |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Izumi Settsu | Old Kofun | Travel east from Sakai City in Izumi Settsu, where a small mountain can be seen above the water near Izumi Coast. You’ll encounter this Kofun during Naoe’s journey. |
2 | Izumi Settsu | Makino Kurumazuka | This location is at the northeastern edge of Settsu, north of Yawata Plains. Note that entry is restricted to Yasuke. |
3 | Harima | Takagi Kofun | Enter the Harima region from the southeast and head northeast from Kakogawa Estuary. This Kofun is located in the hostile zone of Takagi Otsuka Fort. |
4 | Yamashiro | Ancient Tomb of Nanjo | Find this Kofun in the southwest of Yamashiro, right beneath the Eagle’s Nest Kakurega and northwest of the Shoryuji Tenshu viewpoint. |
5 | Tamba | Chasuriyama Kofun | To locate this Kofun, head to the northwestern area of Tamba, where “Chasuriyama” appears on the map, specifically northwest of that location. |
6 | Omi | Azuchi Hyotanyama Kofun | In the Azuchi area of Omi, once you’ve unlocked the Azuchi Kakurega, head directly east from there toward the edge of the region to find this Kofun. |
7 | Wakasa | Veiled Tumulus | At the right side of the Wakasa marker on the map (1x zoom), where three rivers converge, this Kofun can be found on the northeastern shore of that intersection. |
8 | Yamato | Megalithic Vault | This Kofun is located in the northwest corner of Yamato, northeast of the Koriyama Forest viewpoint. |
9 | Yamato | Ishibutai Kofun | In the southwestern part of Yamato, you’ll see the Asura Rocks Basin at 2x zoom. This Kofun is southeast of that location. |
10 | Kii | Shimosato Kofun | The last Kofun is situated in the southeastern area of Kii, just below the Kumano Kakurega. |
What Are Kofuns?
When you reach a Kofun’s location, you’ll find an underground entrance at the exact map marker. Inside, visibility is often low, adding to the challenge of exploring these sites.
You’ll have to navigate through narrow paths and hidden crevices, often solving a variety of puzzles to reach the ultimate legendary chest within the Kofun. Every chest you discover awards legendary gear, Knowledge Points, and 1,000 XP.
Some Kofuns can be accessed and completed only by specific characters, requiring you to switch between Naoe and Yasuke.
