Understanding the Ke Ke Ke Ke Team in Pokémon GO

In Pokémon GO, there are currently 22 distinct GO Rocket Grunt teams, with the Ke Ke Ke Ke team presenting one of the toughest challenges. This group specializes in Ghost-type Pokémon, making them harder to defeat due to their unique resistances. To overcome them, you’ll need to choose your Pokémon wisely and have effective counters ready.

Why Defeating the Grunt Teams Matters

Beating Grunt teams, including Ke Ke Ke Ke, is crucial for progressing to face the GO Rocket Leaders and Giovanni, the GO Rocket Boss, in May 2025. To complete a Rocket Radar and get the opportunity to confront a leader, you must defeat six grunts. These grunts can appear at PokéStops or GO Rocket Balloons, but the specific team you encounter is random. Fortunately, you’ll know which one you’re up against based on their initial dialogue.

Ke Ke Ke Ke Grunt Team Details & Counters (May 2025)

Consistent Lineup for May:

Team GO Rocket Grunts differ significantly from GO Leaders like Cliff. Each Grunt has three Pokémon options for their three battle slots, totaling nine possible challengers. However, since all their Pokémon are at least partially Ghost-types, they share common weaknesses, primarily to Ghost and Dark attacks.

Key Points About the Team

  • All Pokémon used by the Ke Ke Ke Ke team are Shadow Pokémon, making them stronger than regular variants.
  • In battle, they will always start with one of three Pokémon: Gastly, Golett, or Duskull. Their second wave can include Sableye, Haunter, or another Golett. The last wave often consists of Gengar, Alolan Marowak, or Froslass.

Pokémon and Their Weaknesses Overview

Wave Pokémon Weaknesses Best Counters
1 Gastly Ghost, Ground, Dark, Psychic Darkrai, Hydreigon, Absol
1 Golett Ghost, Water, Grass, Ice, Dark Kartana, Darkrai
1 Duskull Darkrai, Zoroark
2 Haunter Poison, Ghost, Psychic, Dark Darkrai, Zoroark
2 Golett Ghost, Water, Grass, Ice, Dark Kartana, Darkrai
2 Sableye Xerneas, Gardevoir
3 Froslass Ghost, Rock, Steel, Fire, Dark Darkrai, Metagross
3 Alolan Marowak Dark, Rock, Ground, Water, Ghost Darkrai, Rampardos
3 Gengar Dark, Ground, Psychic, Ghost Darkrai, Zoroark

Recommended Strategy for Confronting the Ke Ke Ke Ke Team

Given the common weaknesses of this team, it’s advisable to focus on Dark-type Pokémon. Incorporate at least two into your lineup; Darkrai and Absol are excellent choices since they are formidable attackers and can swiftly take down the Ke Ke Ke Ke team. Opting for Dark-types is generally a smarter move than Ghost-types, as using Ghost-types can make your team susceptible to their own self-inflicted damage.

Additionally, be sure to have a Fairy-type Pokémon ready for the fight against Sableye, which only has a weakness to Fairy attacks. Xerneas or Togekiss can be particularly effective counters.

Rewards for Defeating Rocket Grunts in Pokémon GO

Defeating the Ke Ke Ke Ke team and other Rocket Grunts comes with valuable rewards. You’ll receive a Mysterious Component, essential for constructing your Rocket Radar, which is necessary to challenge the GO Rocket Leaders and Giovanni.

Each Grunt defeated grants you the same rewards, with the primary difference being the Shadow Pokémon you’ll encounter after the battle. This Pokémon will be one from their initial battle lineup: Gastly, Duskull, or Golett. You’ll also earn 500 Stardust, useful for powering up your Pokémon.

In summary, while Ke Ke Ke Ke is among the strongest of the Team GO Rocket Grunts, you can overcome them by strategically employing Dark-type Pokémon in your battles.
