In Monster Hunter Wilds, the option to change the appearance of your armor really kicks in once you reach High Rank. This phase introduces layered armor and lets you customize the look of your gear, depending on the equipment you’ve acquired. Prior to reaching this level, you can only modify the aesthetics of armor that comes from DLC bonuses or pre-orders. If you haven’t collected those bonuses, you might want to bookmark this info for later. Here’s a straightforward guide on how to change armor appearances using layered armor in Monster Hunter Wilds.

To customize your armor’s appearance in Monster Hunter Wilds, you first need to acquire High Rank armor sets, which unlock the layered armor feature. This happens in chapter 4 after you take down the Yian Kut-Ku during the main storyline. Once you defeat such monsters, they’ll begin dropping materials that allow you to craft high-rank armor, which is some of the best gear available.
After you’ve obtained any piece of High Rank armor, head back to your camp tent. There will be an option at the far-right tab to change armor appearance. Keep in mind that this option doesn’t alter the stats of your current armor; it simply changes its look to match any High Rank armor you’ve crafted. While you’re there, you can also adjust the color scheme of the armor pieces and select any appearances you might have received from pre-order bonuses.

It’s important to note that this appearance customization feature currently applies only to armor. As of now, there is no way to change the look of your weapons in a similar fashion. There’s a possibility that future updates may introduce this option, but it might have certain restrictions. For instance, in Monster Hunter Rise, the layered weapon feature was only available with the Sunbreak DLC and was limited to specific items.
