Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has confirmed that the Werehog version of Sonic will not have any voice lines, and many fans are upset about this.
In recent months, Sega has highlighted a key aspect of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds – its impressive character lineup. Besides well-known characters like Sonic, Amy, and Eggman, the game includes guest characters, including Sega favorites like Ichiban and Hatsune Miku, along with third-party icons such as Steve from Minecraft and SpongeBob SquarePants.
Sonic Racing games have always featured odd characters, but CrossWorlds is pushing that to new limits. However, a major downside is the lack of voice acting for most guest characters. It’s disappointing that SpongeBob and Patrick only produce bubble sounds, and now it seems even worse.
It appears that none of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds’ DLC characters will have voice lines, including the Sega guests
“HE AIN’T A QUIET DOG, HE’S A LOUD WOLF-HEDGEHOG!”
For a while, it has been known that the pre-order bonus for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the Werehog version of Sonic from Sonic Unleashed. Fans hoped that Jason Griffith would return to voice the character or that Roger Craig Smith would portray the Werehog in a new way.
Unfortunately, that won’t be happening. A recent clip of the Werehog showed that he will not have any voice lines, using only the jump sound from Unleashed. This seems to be a pattern for CrossWorlds, with SpongeBob confirmed to only have bubble sound effects.
While it was disappointing to see SpongeBob without a voice, it was somewhat understandable since he is a guest character. However, it is strange that the Werehog, who has a history as a well-known character, will also be voiceless. Roger Craig Smith shared that he was willing to voice the character but was not even approached.
This decision has generated significant backlash from fans, with many considering it “comically cheap” not to include voice lines for the Werehog. One popular tweet from user PersonthePerso2 noted that this is “unacceptable for a $70 game.”
