Updated October 28, 2024 by Zoë J. Osik: Our guide now features additional tips and tricks for Fallout Shelter on mobile, ensuring that your Vault thrives. Don’t forget about your Dwellers; they’re counting on you now more than ever, and we’ll help you keep them happy and in great shape.
Take It Slow
Your main challenge is likely to be expanding too rapidly. While it’s thrilling to unlock new rooms and resources for upgrading your Vault, trying to build too quickly can have serious repercussions.
New rooms require more Dwellers, and if you don’t manage your resources well, you might find power, food, and water dwindling fast. Instead of struggling to catch up, focus on building your Vault one room at a time and upgrading as necessary.
Focus on Crafting
As you progress, you’ll unlock workshops, including the Weapon, Outfit, and Theme Workshops. While these rooms come with high costs, they allow you to create new items for your Dwellers to use.
Some items can only be acquired through crafting!
Though crafting takes time and resources, it’s an excellent method to utilize junk in Fallout Shelter. This will free up space and provide your Dwellers with better equipment, aiding them in defending the Vault and exploring the wasteland.
Send Dwellers to Explore
Let your Dwellers venture into the wasteland to find junk, weapons, outfits, and other treasures. It may take some time, but their returns filled with items and bottle caps will be worth the wait.
Since it can be risky, ensure the Dwellers going out have the highest SPECIAL stats and good weapons. You should also check on them periodically to verify they haven’t fallen in battle. If they do, you’ll need to either remove them permanently from the Vault or spend valuable bottle caps to revive them.
Rush Your Rooms
If resources are running low, you can Rush the room to generate more. The downside is there’s a chance for an incident, but if the odds are manageable, it might be worth it.
A successful Rush can prevent power outages, starvation, or other mishaps affecting your Vault. You might even experience consecutive successful Rushes, but be warned that each one raises the odds of an incident occurring.
Complete Objectives
Objectives serve as helpful markers for enhancing your Vault. Completing them can earn you bottle caps, Nuka Cola Quantum, Lunchboxes, and Pet Carriers, which strengthen your Vault and add unique bonuses.
You can discard one objective per day for free, but further removals come at a cost. It’s a smart idea to discard any you can’t accomplish, such as tasks that require giving up surplus weapons or risking Radscorpion attacks just for a reward.
Train Your Dwellers
Initially, your Dwellers will possess low SPECIAL stats. Fortunately, with the right resources, they can quickly develop their skills. Construct training rooms to enhance SPECIAL stats over time.
Boosting these stats improves Dweller efficiency, and if your Dwellers have children, they might inherit these traits. Aim to create a Vault filled with SPECIAL Dwellers for a better experience in the wasteland. While stats can be supplemented with gear, having them as inherent traits is much more beneficial.
Locate The Mysterious Stranger
If you hear a sneaky piano tune, stop everything and look around for the Mysterious Stranger, who dons a fedora and trench coat. Spotting him rewards you with a random amount of bottle caps; you might even score over 3,000 caps all at once, although the minimum can be just 98.
Embark on Quests
Once you unlock the Overseer’s Office, you can send Dwellers out on quests. Although quests take time, they enable you to actively participate in your Dwellers’ adventures and help them gather bottle caps and rewards in the wasteland.
Ensure your Dwellers are equipped with solid weapons and gear for survival, along with Stimpaks and RadAways to keep them healthy during their missions.
Be Ready for the Unexpected
No matter how well you prepare, incidents will occur. It’s essential to arm your Dwellers, upgrade your Vault Door, and maintain a steady supply of Stimpaks and RadAways. An unexpected incident can turn a simple issue into a major crisis.
Your resource production will face interruptions, and you’ll need to Rush your rooms to quickly regain stability. Stay calm, take a deep breath, and prepare for the next challenge.
Keep Dwellers Content
Above all, it’s crucial to keep your Dwellers happy. Happy Dwellers are more productive, which leads to increased resource production. Ensure they’re healthy, in a positive environment, and have enough resources.
If a Dweller appears to be unhappy, assign them to the Living Quarters for social interaction and relaxation. Dwellers require opportunities to unwind and escape stressful situations, so be attentive to their moods to maintain overall Vault efficiency.
Improve Dweller Quality
If you want your Vault to operate efficiently, focus on breeding better Dwellers. This involves carefully selecting parents and training to produce the highest quality offspring.
Although you can individually train Dwellers, this method is time-consuming. It’s far more effective to have Dwellers give birth to gifted offspring rather than using limited resources for training. Alternatively, discover rare Dwellers with existing high stats to save time and effort!
