If you’ve recently started playing Dune: Awakening and are itching to get behind the wheel, you might need a little patience if you stick strictly to the progression missions. Fortunately, there’s a method to unlock and craft a Sandbike early on—the first vehicle you can access in the game—which significantly improves your ability to travel for various missions. If you’re already familiar with survival games, I recommend this shortcut. If this is your first experience with open-world survival, it’s best to follow the main storyline.

After customizing your character and before diving into any introductory tutorials in Dune: Awakening, you’ll be asked if you want to unlock the Research menu right away instead of waiting for it to become available through progression. To get the Sandbike as quickly as possible, select the Unlocked (Advanced) option so you can access the Sandbike schematics from the start. The next step is to familiarize yourself with the map and set up a basic base near Imperial Testing Station 02 as soon as possible.

Unlocking the Sandbike Schematics in Dune: Awakening

Sandbike Schematics Available with Advanced Research

To ride a Sandbike, you first need the basic schematics to craft it. If you opted for the “Advanced” Research option, you’ll automatically have the Sandbike schematics at the start, but they will cost some Research points. You can choose to wait on this research until you’ve built your base and a Fabricator, as you might want to use those Research points for other priorities initially.

Once your Fabricator and Ore Refinery are ready, you can research the Sandbike schematics to find out what you need to build one. The essential components are located inside Imperial Testing Station 02. Building your base close to this facility is a smart move. Exploring the Testing Station also allows you to skip main progression missions that lead you there later on, letting you collect essential quest items without having to accept the missions first.

To assemble the Sandbike, you’ll need to gather parts from Imperial Testing Station 02. This location is near the camp of Planetologist Derek Chinara (see the map for details). It’s to the northwest of your initial crash site and should be relatively easy to find, especially if you participated in the earlier Beta.

Head to Imperial Testing Station 02 for Sandbike Materials

After locating Imperial Testing Station 02 and establishing your base with the Fabricator, you’ll need to explore the station and gather materials. By collecting everything in the facility, you’ll obtain all the main parts necessary to build the Sandbike, in addition to basic resources like Copper Ore. You’ll also need to craft a Welding Torch at your Fabricator, which is essential for putting together the Sandbike components.

Sandbike Components & Materials

Sandbike Inventory

  • 12 Copper Ingots
  • 7 Advanced Servoks

Sandbike PSU

  • 5 Copper Ingots

  • 3 Particle Capacitors

Sandbike Chassis

  • 12 Copper Ingots
  • 5 Advanced Servoks

Sandbike Hull

  • 12 Copper Ingots
  • 5 Advanced Servoks

Once you gather the Advanced Servoks and Particle Capacitors from Imperial Testing Station 02 and refine the necessary Copper Ingots, you can use the Fabricator to create each part. After they’re ready, collect the components and use the Welding Torch to put together your first Sandbike. Now, you can explore Arrakis with ease and save a lot of time on various mission tasks in Dune: Awakening.
