There are very few enemies in Dying Light: The Beast that cause as much fear as a Chimera. These are mutated zombie bosses you encounter during certain missions. Chimeras are fierce foes that use a mix of brute strength, poisonous tricks, and sneaky tactics to take you down. To succeed against these monsters, you need to plan your attack carefully.
When you defeat a Chimera boss, you earn Beast Points. This special resource lets you unlock new combat skills for Kyle Crane. These skills are linked to a special mode called Beast Mode, which you can control more as your strength grows. Unlocking certain abilities is often necessary to beat later Chimera fights.
Locations of All Chimeras in the Game
Not every mission features a Chimera boss. But the ones that do pose a tough challenge, testing what you’ve learned and how strong you’ve become. There are eight different Chimera bosses in total. Some are tanky and focus on melee attacks with lots of health and damaging strikes, while others are quick and tricky, using status effects to weaken you.
Here’s a list of each Chimera boss and the mission where you face them:
Chimera Boss | Encounter Mission | Traits |
---|---|---|
The Reaper | Safe Haven | Slow-moving brute, melee attacks, charge strikes |
The Defect | Life After Life | Melee attacker, large stun AoE |
The Mist | First Blood | Ranged attacks, Toxic infliction, stun |
The Behemoth | A New Strain | Summons others, strong melee and ranged attacks |
The Toxin | Toxic Relationships | Ranged attacks, Toxic debuff, stays at long range |
The Matriarch | Requiem For A Scream | Long-range attacks, summons allies |
The Wraith | One Flew Over The Volatile’s Nest | Invisible, toxic mid-range attacks |
The Colossus | Buried Truths | Combination of all threats: big, slow, summon, attack |
How to Beat Each Chimera
- Use your abilities wisely: Save your special skills and resources for when they’re most needed.
- Stock up on ammo and explosives: Many Chimera fights are easier if you have plenty of bullets and grenades.
- Learn attack patterns: Each boss shares some moves with others. Use previous experiences to your advantage, but don’t fight them exactly the same way every time.
Tips for Specific Bosses
- The Reaper: It only uses melee attacks. Keep your distance to avoid its slow, powerful hits. Dodge its charge and push it into walls to stun it, then attack.
- The Defect: Similar to The Reaper but more dangerous with a lethal slam attack. Dodge its slam move and use gas canisters to stun it.
- The Mist: Hardest because of the fog-filled arena. Keep moving to avoid acid projectiles and try to spot her shadow or sounds to locate her. Use long-range weapons.
- The Behemoth: Acts like a stronger version of The Reaper and The Defect combined. It summons larger groups of tougher enemies and throws rocks. Clear out the adds quickly and dodge its ranged attacks to survive.
- The Toxin: Quick and agile; it leaps from high places and spits acid. Fight from a distance using guns, Molotovs, or other thrown weapons.
- The Matriarch: She hides in corners and only attacks when threatened, summoning high-level helpers. Use loud noises or grenades to locate her, and keep distance from her summoned minions.
- The Wraith: Turns invisible and stalks you. Listen closely for sounds to know where it is, then strike fast before it disappears again.
- The Colossus: The final challenge, combining all threats. Use all your skills, weapons, and knowledge. Keep moving behind pillars for cover and attack from behind when you can to wear it down.
For each fight, having a good plan, lots of supplies, and quick reactions will help you defeat these deadly Chimera bosses. Once you overcome all of them, you’ll be ready for the next steps in your adventure, pushing closer to the goal of uncovering the game’s story.
