One of the first significant monsters you’ll encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds is the Doshaguma, along with its Alpha leader. This territorial creature is known for its aggression, making it a tough opponent. Towering over most other wildlife you’ll meet in the Windward Plains, this fang-bearing beast is both massive and formidable. The Alpha Doshaguma is particularly intimidating, as its presence shakes the ground beneath you during your attempt to hunt it.
The Alpha Doshaguma was available for hunting during both Open Betas of Monster Hunter Wilds. While it retains much of its original form from those beta versions, there is now a wealth of content and features that can make battling this powerful monster somewhat more manageable. Both newcomers and seasoned players will find that exploring new parts of the environment can provide a significant advantage during their hunt.
Where to Find Alpha Doshaguma
Disperse the Pack to Isolate Its Leader
You can usually find the Alpha Doshaguma roaming in the Windward Plains, typically traveling in a group of 2 to 4 others. The rest of the Doshaguma are just as fierce as their leader, making a one-on-one fight with the Alpha challenging until the pack has been dealt with. Here are a few strategies to separate the Alpha from its companions:
- Block their path to prevent the Alpha from joining them.
- Utilize a Large Dung Pod to scare them away.
- Eliminate each Doshaguma one at a time.
Using a Large Dung Pod is the most commonly employed method to rid the area of extra Doshaguma. The foul smell will cause all but the Alpha to flee, allowing you to focus on it alone.
In the later parts of the game, you might need to gather various parts from Doshaguma, so it’s worth the effort to hunt down every member of a Doshaguma pack. However, save this endeavor for when you have a high-level weapon capable of dealing significant damage to a Doshaguma’s health.
Alternatively, you can manipulate the environment to isolate the Alpha Doshaguma. Monster Hunter Wilds reintroduces a World mechanic that allows you to drop rocks, trigger Shock Toads, or guide monsters into perilous areas to make them easier to handle. For the Alpha Doshaguma, consider adjusting the environment so you can confront it alone.
How to Defeat Alpha Doshaguma
Create Weak Points and Aim to Stagger the Beast
When hunting an Alpha Doshaguma, it’s best to avoid engaging from the front as most of its attacks are directed there. This beast uses its fangs and front legs to attack, either by biting or slamming its massive feet onto the ground. Staying behind or beside the creature enhances your chances of mitigating damage while maximizing your opportunities to strike.
Conducting Special Research on the Alpha Doshaguma will help you identify which body parts are most susceptible to damage. Additional study will reveal its strengths and weaknesses regarding various elemental attacks.
You should frequently enter Focus Mode to inflict wounds on the Alpha Doshaguma, focusing particularly on its legs. Mounting the creature helps you target its back, breaking through its defenses and creating more opportunities for effective strikes. Attacking the wounded areas increases your chances of staggering the Alpha, leaving it open for your most powerful techniques.
The strongest attack of the Alpha Doshaguma can create a mini-earthquake shockwave in front of it. This move typically occurs after the creature stands on its hind legs for a moment, so learn to recognize its attack patterns to dodge the strongest hits.
The Alpha Doshaguma will execute wide sweeping attacks, bites, slams, and claw strikes to knock you off balance. Avoid taking too much damage, or you risk getting stunned, which may leave you vulnerable to its next powerful strike. Keep rolling, blocking, and dodging its attacks, then use your weapon’s unique combos to keep the pressure on.
Rewards from Defeating Alpha Doshaguma
Obtain Unique Parts for Weapons and Armor
Like any monster in Monster Hunter Wilds, defeating the Alpha Doshaguma yields unique monster parts. These materials can be used to craft new armor and weapons associated with the Doshaguma, opening up fresh skills and strategies to explore. Taking down stronger versions of the Alpha Doshaguma will grant you even better materials later in the game, but here’s a look at what you might receive from your initial victory:
- Doshaguma Hide
- Doshaguma Fang
- Doshaguma Claw
- Doshaguma Fur
- Beast Gem
Breaking various parts of the monster will always enhance your rewards. For the Alpha Doshaguma, you can gather Doshaguma Fur by inflicting damage to specific areas of its body.
The Beast Gem is a rare drop from an Alpha Doshaguma, so you may need to hunt it several times to acquire it. Fortunately, using the right tactics during your initial encounter will set you up for easier victories in the future, allowing you to gather more materials to craft impressive gear in Monster Hunter Wilds.
