At the beginning of your adventure in Dune: Awakening, you’ll gain access to a sub-fief. One of the fundamental aspects of gameplay involves ensuring your base has a steady power supply. Keeping your base powered is essential not only for producing and refining materials but also for providing a safe place to take shelter during sandstorms and other dangers.
However, maintaining power in your sub-fief isn’t always easy. If you want to learn the best methods to keep your base energized, here’s everything you need to ensure your sub-fief remains in optimal condition.
How to Power Your Sub-Fief
The power requirements for your sub-fief can vary, based on your machinery needs.
You can check your power levels and any circuit overloads at the sub-fief console.
The more machinery you have, the more power you will need. To keep your sub-fief operational, you’ll have three main energy sources to consider:
- Fuel Generators
- Turbines
- Spice-Powered Generators
Each power source has its own advantages, which we’ll explore next, but they all serve the purpose of keeping your base’s shields intact and your machines running smoothly.
Fuel Generators
Fuel Generators are the simplest and most affordable way to power your sub-fief, and you’ll learn to use them first.
Each Fuel Generator produces 75 power but requires Fuel Cells to remain operational.
Launching a Survey Probe can help you locate Fuel Cells scattered across the map.
These generators are inexpensive to build, only needing 45 units of Salvaged Metal. The downside is that you need to refill them regularly.
Check your sub-fief console to see how long your base will remain powered based on the Fuel Cells you have deposited.
If you’re expanding or adding new machinery, a quick fix to avoid overloading your circuits is to build another Fuel Generator and add more Fuel Cells.
Turbines
If you want to avoid constantly refilling Fuel Generators, your best option is to build Turbines.
There are two types of Turbines you can create in Dune: Awakening.
Turbine Type |
Pros |
Cons |
---|---|---|
Omnidirectional |

Directional |

As you can see, Turbines have their pros and cons. The advantage is that they automatically generate power.
However, you’ll need to ensure you have lubricant available for them to function.
In some ways, you’re swapping one resource for another; in this case, Fuel Cells for lubricant.
If you can afford the Directional Turbine, its 350 power output can significantly impact your sub-fief, eliminating the need to build two or three Fuel Generators for the same effect.
Spice-Powered Generator
Lastly, you can build a Spice-Powered Generator, which is by far the strongest generator, producing 1,000 power.
Although it’s costly to build and still requires the use of Fuel Cells, you’ll need to supply Spice-Infused Fuel Cells instead of regular ones.
To create Spice-Infused Fuel Cells, gather Fuel Cells and Spice Residue, and build a Medium Chemical Refinery.
This process can be time-consuming. Nonetheless, in the long haul, you’ll be generating significant power, making it much more efficient than relying solely on multiple Fuel Generators.
In the end, to enhance your base’s power system effectively, ensure you incorporate a mix of energy sources. Staying adaptable will eliminate your power concerns.
What Happens If You Don’t Power Your Sub-Fief
If you neglect to power your sub-fief, several important consequences will follow.
- Your Base Shields Will Drop
- Your Machinery Will Stop Working
- Your Base Will Deteriorate
When your power runs out, the shields protecting your base will fall, leaving it vulnerable to intruders. This, of course, is not ideal.
Furthermore, sandstorms will wear down your base, requiring repairs once you restore power.
Lastly, without power, you can’t use refineries, fabricators, or other necessary machinery.
In the harsh environment of Arrakis, powering your base is crucial for survival, so make it your top priority.
