In Dune: Awakening, the Landsraad and the noble houses of the Imperium significantly impact your gameplay. To gain access to the Landsraad and affiliate with factions, your first step is to find and ally with either House Harkonnen or House Atreides. These two houses are locked in a constant rivalry, so choose wisely where to place your loyalty.
If you’re unsure about how to begin, this guide is here to assist. We’ll cover everything you need to know about finding and joining House Atreides in Dune: Awakening.
How to Find House Atreides
To connect with House Atreides, you’ll need to locate their envoy on Arrakis, Lieutenant Anton Tolliver. Start your search at The Anvil trade post located in the Eastern Vermillius Gap.
Arriving at the trade post for the first time will trigger a cutscene where you’ll witness Tolliver in a confrontation with a Harkonnen envoy named Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir.
After the cutscene, you can interact with both envoy characters, initiating questlines to join either House Atreides or House Harkonnen.
Your commitment to either faction isn’t required until the final quest.
How to Join House Atreides
Once you find Tolliver, approach him and offer your services to assist House Atreides. He will inform you that, before you can officially commit to the house, you must complete a series of contracts to demonstrate your loyalty.
In total, you will need to complete four contracts for the Atreides:
- The Missing Spy
- Test of Prowess
- Test of Cunning
- Test of Loyalty
Completing The Missing Spy
After your initial conversation with Tolliver, you can request a contract to help declare your loyalty to House Atreides. Your first mission is to track down a missing spy in the Vermillius Gap.
Upon finishing this quest, you will have the choice to report your findings to either Tolliver or the Harkonnens, branching your quest line.
To find the missing spy, head south of the Anvil trade post to the marked rock formation. Ascend the structure’s face to find a small camp.
Be aware that various Kirab camps are scattered throughout the area; however, the spy’s camp is situated at a much higher elevation compared to the Kirab camps.
At the camp, you’ll find a deceased body and a recorded transmission. Simply play the transmission and return to Tolliver to report.
Completing Test Of Prowess
Next, Tolliver will instruct you to deal with ruthless slavers located north of the Anvil. To prove your loyalty to House Atreides, he requires you to eliminate ten slavers.
You can either head to the location marked on your map or hunt slavers throughout the Jabal Eifrit region, which lies north of the Anvil.
The best spots to encounter slavers are the Intel stations within this region.
Whether you go to the marked point or explore other bases in the area, take out ten slavers and then report back to Tolliver.
If you don’t already possess one, consider crafting a Holtzman Shield before engaging with the slavers.
Completing Test Of Cunning
Now, Tolliver will require you to conduct espionage for House Atreides. You must interview a Harkonnen operative named Lanov.
Lanov has a dependency on a drug called Semuta. Use this information to gather intelligence on the Harkonnens.
Head to the Harkonnen fortress to the east of the Anvil, and look for Lanov under a small canopy. You can then proceed to interrogate him.
Depending on your character’s build and background, you might receive unique dialogue choices during this interrogation.
When conversing with Lanov, select the following dialogue options to extract the necessary information:
- ‘Now there’s a man who’s deep into his Semuta.’
- ‘Yeah, you’re swimming in it. Wouldn’t remember my face in five minutes.’
- ‘A musician who knows how to play it is worth their weight in spice.’
- ‘Maxim Kazmir sent me to observe you.’
Avoid selecting ‘Goodbye’ to successfully complete the interrogation.
This interview requires finesse; avoid options that seem too aggressive, as they may scare Lanov away.
Completing Test Of Loyalty
For your final contract, report back to Tolliver. You’ll discover that Maxim is a Semuta addict, and you can use this intelligence to blackmail him, proving your value to House Atreides.
Keep in mind, after completing this step, joining House Harkonnen will be more challenging.
Speak with Tolliver again, and he’ll provide the location of a Semuta den in the Western Vermillius Gap.
The den is situated within Imperial Testing Station 13, which you might have encountered during your adventures.
Travel west to the testing station, which is relatively straightforward to navigate. Head down to the lowest level and retrieve the two access bracelets from the side rooms.
Afterward, proceed through the purple door.
If you’re low on Calibrated Servoks, the Imperial Testing Station is a great source for these parts.
Inside the Semuta den, defeat the enemies and collect the record of all of Maxim’s Semuta purchases, which can be used for blackmail. The records will be found in a chest located near a small fire pit at the back of the room.
Once you have gathered the necessary evidence, return to the Anvil and inform Tolliver that you wish to join House Atreides.
You can choose to betray Tolliver and join House Harkonnen later if you wish, but regaining Tolliver’s trust will be quite difficult.
